AEW Worlds End: Jon Moxley Stands Tall Against Kyle Fletcher In Continental Classic Semifinal
The Contental Classic match pitted the winner of the Gold League, Kyle Fletcher (9 points), against the runner-up of the Blue League, Jon Moxley (9 points) at AEW Worlds End.
While Fletcher dominated his league, Moxley clawed his way back into contention with clutch wins, which included a victory over Orange Cassidy in a grudge match on Collision.
Jon Moxley Chokes Out Kyle Fletcher At AEW Worlds End
Both Kyle Fletcher and Jon Moxley being tolerable to pain meant that the bout would see many heavy hits.
After trading initial shots, the Australian got the edge over the leader of the Death Riders by trapping his left leg between the stairs.
Fletcher put Moxley in a Half Boston Crab submission after attacking his injured leg a few times, but in a moment of desperation, Moxley retaliated with a cutter.
Fletcher got a near pinfall after landing a Michinoku Driver; Moxley was bleeding from his mouth. The former AEW World Champion put up some resistance but was met with a devastating brainbuster on the ring apron.
Fletcher applied an ankle lock, viciously twisting Moxley’s leg; however, a defiant Moxley found the bottom of the rope.
Despite hitting a stomp, Moxley could not capitalize. Moxley no-sold Fletcher’s running knee and kicked out of his opponent’s Brainbuster.
Moxley hit a Paradigm Shift, only to get a near pinfall, which he followed up with a Death Rider for a similar outcome.
Moxley applied the Barbedwire Bulldog Choke to make Fletcher pass out, with the referee calling for the bell. Fletcher argued with the referee that he did not tap out.
The 40-year-old will face Kazuchika Okada in the final of the Continental Classic.
