AEW Star Expected To Wrestle Again Despite Serious Illness

A popular AEW wrestler is likely going to wrestle again even after dealing with a serious health issue.

Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega hasn’t had a match since early December, which means he has been out of the ring for over eight months. Just to show how long ago that was, the wrestler he beat in that match is the current WWE NXT Champion Ethan Page.

The last time Omega appeared on AEW Dynamite was on May 1st when The Elite beat him up leading to Omega doing a stretcher job.

Omega has been dealing with diverticulitis since last December. It’s a painful illness that led to Omega having surgery in May to try to correct the issue.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer had a positive update on Omega’s health.

Regarding Kenny Omega, we haven’t heard anything new past he’s doing better and while we don’t have any kind of a date for him returning, the feeling right now is that he will be returning and his career isn’t over. He hasn’t been cleared to start any training yet.

Can Kenny Omega Return For AEW All In?

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer added more to the story by mentioning that AEW would love to have Omega face Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada at All In on August 25th. However, Meltzer doesn’t think it’s going to happen.

“I expect he will wrestle again, I have no timetable as to when. I know he’s getting better, he’s far from 100%. Obviously the dream is him and Okada at All In at Wembley but I don’t know that it’s possible. My feeling’s probably no, I haven’t got the impression it’s close to happening.”

Kazuchika Okada will be in action on the July 18th edition of Dynamite against the AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland.
