AEW Star Reveals Truth Behind Orange Cassidy’s Thumbs Up

Orange Cassidy makes his entrance at AEW Grand Slam Dynamite 2022

Trent Beretta has revealed the surprising origin of Orange Cassidy’s thumbs up.

One of the original members of the roster, Orange Cassidy has become a beloved figure in AEW for his laid-back style which contrasts with explosive energy in the ring.

With his casual entrance, sunglasses, stripped-back entrance video, and inclination to put his hands in his pockets during matches, the current International Champion presents himself as the most relaxed wrestler to ever slowly roll into a ring.

This attitude even extends to him giving his thumbs-up, which is more like ‘thumb lifts a little.’ During an appearance on Talk is Jericho, Trent Beretta revealed that the gesture actually came from an ad the two saw while in China.

“We did this show in China, and it was an advertisement in an airport for whatever it was, Chinese Soda, and for whatever reason, his [billboard ad person] thumb was a shitty half-assed thumbs up. That was the thing the whole tour we were all doing. His [Ad Person] thumb looked great, he was just being lazy. It became a thing we did all tour. It fits him [Orange Cassidy] perfectly.”

Orange Cassidy reaches major milestone as AEW International Champion

Cassidy captured gold for the first time in AEW when he defeated PAC for the International Championship on Dynamite in October 2022. Since then, he has defended the title against the likes of Rush, Luchasaurus, Rey Fenix, Katsuyori Shibata, and Swerve Strickland as well as putting the gold on the line in a 21-man Blackjack Battle Royal at Double Or Nothing 2023.

Most recently, he retained against Aaron Solo in a match taped for the August 25th edition of Rampage. This marked a major milestone for the star as it was his 30th successful defence since winning the title over 300 days ago.
