AEW Star Pulls Out Of Indie Booking As WWE Rumours Intensify

AEW's Tony Khan and WWE's Triple H AEW Dynamite WWE NXT

An AEW star might have given the clearest indication yet they’re heading to WWE.

Back in June, it was reported that Penta El Zero Miedo would be open to making the jump to WWE when his contract expires later this year. At the time, Penta dismissed speculation he was planning to leave AEW as a “rumour,” but admitted that it would be a “good episode” of his career.

Both Penta and his brother Rey Fenix will soon be free agents as their AEW contracts expire within weeks.

Interestingly, Fenix has now pulled out of an independent show towards the end of September. Crucially, this is after his AEW contract expires. The news has added to speculation that the Lucha Brothers will be heading to WWE when their AEW deals run out.

In a statement posted on social media, New Era Wrestling announced Fenix would no longer be appearing at their event in September due to “personal circumstances.”

To our fans:

Rey Fenix will be unable to participate in our Lucha Libre event on September 27th due to personal circumstances.

We aplogise for any inconvenience this may cause, as it is beyond our control.

However, we remain committed to delivering the finest Lucha Libre experience in El Paso. We assure you of this promise.

Please stay turned for updates regarding the event lineup.

Lucha Brothers Receive Offer From WWE

In the most recent update on the situation, it was revealed that the Lucha Brothers have already received a contract offer from WWE. The preliminary offer is said to be similar to the one made by AEW.

The pair reportedly want to sign as a package deal and have no interest in starting in NXT.

In other contract news, it’s believed Bobby Lashley will become a free agent in the coming days as he lets his WWE contract expire. Those close to the former World Champion expect him to at least make an appearance in AEW although no offer has been made.
