AEW Star Athena Makes History
AEW star Athena has become the longest reigning champion in Ring Of Honor history.
The 36 year-old star claimed the ROH Women’s World Championship with victory over Mercedes Martinez at ROH Final Battle on 10th December 2022. The event emanated from College Park Center in Dallas, Texas.
Athena achieved the impressive milestone on Sunday 15th September, reaching her 646th day with the title, surpassing the previous Ring Of Honor record held by former ROH World Champion, Samoa Joe.
The Texas-born star’s 2022 move to Ring Of Honor and AEW came on the heels of a six-year stint with WWE, where she performed as Ember Moon. Having enjoyed a spell as NXT Women’s Champion, big things were expected when a switch to the main roster came in 2018 but injuries took their toll and the company eventually released the star in November 2021.
Athena’s career is now firmly back on track with successful title defences over the likes of Willow Nightingale, Hikaru Shida and Queen Aminata helping the star to obtain the new record.
Athena Told To Lose Weight Ahead Of WWE Debut
The path to become the ROH all-time record holder has not been easy for Athena, who was kicked out by her parents for abandoning her college studies to chase the dream of becoming a professional wrestler.
The popular star also revealed that she was advised to lose weight following a tryout with WWE.
