Top AEW Star Admits They Want To “Disappear” From Wrestling

An AEW star won’t be overstaying their welcome.

Since signing with the company in 2019, Darby Allin has risen to become one of the biggest and most popular stars in AEW. But pro wrestling is far from his only love.

Alongside winning championships in AEW, Allin routinely completes insane stunts outside of the ring, and even reached the summit of Mount Everest back in May. He’s also found time to play a key role in training Steven Borden, the son of wrestling legend Sting, who is a close friend of Allin’s.

Given that he’s running all of these side quests as well as competing in the ring himself, it’s perhaps no surprise that Allin doesn’t want to wrestle forever.

Darby Allin Won’t Be Sticking Around In AEW Forever

During an appearance on the My Mom’s Basement podcast, Allin discussed his long-term goals, and it appears they don’t involve wrestling. He said that when all is said and done, he’d like to “disappear” and retreat from wrestling before he finds himself clinging to the spotlight.

“I do, but I don’t. I honestly just want to disappear from the world of wrestling [when his career is over]. I don’t want a whole lot to do with it when I’m retired from the in-ring. It’s fun to coach people, but I don’t think I would have the patience for it, with the egos and stuff.

“I don’t know, I kind of want to just disappear from everything. I want to just live, like, a personal and private life. Make movies and just disappear. I don’t know, it just sounds fun. I don’t want to be one of these guys who’s clinging for the spotlight. Like, ‘Pay attention to me!’ It’s like, dude, I’m at peace with whatever.”

Speaking elsewhere, Darby Allin confirmed that he had previously held talks with WWE before the launch of AEW. However, when he saw the opportunity to become All Elite, there was only one place that he wanted to work.
