AEW Removes MJF From Roster Page
All Elite Wrestling has removed MJF from their roster page to begin 2024.
At AEW Worlds End in Long Island, New York, the longest-reigning AEW World Champion in company history Maxwell Jacob Friedman was hoping to have a good night, but instead, it did not go well for him.
MJF went into his AEW World Title defense against Samoa Joe as an injured man. MJF wrestled with a black sling to support his injured left shoulder. While MJF put up a fight, Joe kept on targeting the left shoulder.
The conclusion of the match saw Joe trap MJF in the Coquina Clutch submission move on the mat with Joe also wrapping his legs around MJF’s body. MJF’s arm was raised once, twice and a third time. Many fans likely assumed it wouldn’t drop a third time, but it did and that meant MJF lost by submission. Samoa Joe is the new AEW World Champion.
In addition to that, MJF’s “best friend” Adam Cole revealed that he was The Devil who had mysteriously tortured and attacked MJF for months. Cole revealed himself as The Devil with Wardlow, Roderick Strong, Matt Taven & Mike Bennett as his henchmen.
After the show, it was reported that MJF would be taking time off to rehab his shoulder injury as well as other injuries he has been dealing with.
MJF No Longer Listed On AEW Roster
For several years, Friedman did promos about how his contract with All Elite Wrestling was set to expire on January 1, 2024, which is today’s date. He called it the “Bidding War of 2024” while teasing the idea that he could jump to World Wrestling Entertainment. Friedman also used to mention WWE people like Chief Content Officer Triple H and WWE President Nick Khan in promos as well, but that happened less often more recently.
With the new year upon us, AEW has removed MJF from their active roster after he worked for them for the past five years.
While Friedman could have come to a deal with AEW without announcing anything publicly, MJF said in mid-December that he had yet to re-sign with AEW.
As for what WWE believes, previous reports have noted that they think MJF has already agreed to remain with All Elite Wrestling.
The next episode of AEW Dynamite takes place on January 3rd.
