AEW Star Forced To Retire Due To Injury
According to a new report an AEW star has been forced into retirement.
On the April 27th episode of Rampage, Chuck Taylor took on Trent Beretta in a wild Parking Lot Brawl. When all was said and done it was Beretta who had his hand raised, and on the following episode of Dynamite, it was revealed Chuck Taylor would never wrestle again after suffering a serious injury.
On the May 8th episode of Dynamite, Orange Cassidy got revenge with a win over Beretta, only to be beaten down after the match.
Meanwhile, on commentary, Excalibur gave an update on Taylor’s condition, confirming the star will need surgery on a broken ankle and his injury is likely career-ending.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that the angle isn’t a storyline, and it’s very unlikely he’ll wrestle again.
On television they talked about Chuck Taylor’s career perhaps being over. In storyline they say it’s over but have also given wiggle room. From what we are told, what was said on television was accurate and the belief right now is that Taylor won’t be able to wrestle again.
Excalibur on the show said that due to the nature of the fracture and the presence of necrosis of the bone (death of the bone) in fragments underneath the cartilage, the injury is likely career ending. Granted, Sting, Bryan Danielson, Katsuyori Shibata, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage all on this very roster were all told that and may have believed that and all came back and did great things so I always think there are no absolutes.
They said that even with surgery he may not be able to and more than likely won’t be able to come back.
Adam Copeland Could Push Back AEW Retirement
Meanwhile, in a new interview, Adam Copeland hinted for the first time he could extend his AEW stay and sign a new contract.
Copeland had previously said he expects his current deal to be his last as an in-ring performer, but in a new update, he suggested that if he’s still performing at a good level he could continue.
