AEW Dynamite Sinks To New Low On New Year’s Eve
There was some bad, if not unsurprising, news for AEW as 2025 came to an end.
AEW went live on New Year’s Eve with a New Year’s Smash edition of Dynamite. That show saw the Death Riders pick up a much-needed win over the eclectic trio of Roderick Strong, Orange Cassidy, and Toni Storm. Bandido defeated The Beast Mortos, while the Dynamite Diamond ring winner’s former tag team partner, Brody King, saw off Lee Johnson in under a minute.
AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley defeated Josh Alexander of The Don Callis Family, and Ricochet successfully defended his AEW National Title against Jack Perry. The night’s main event saw Willow Nightingale dethrone Mercedes Mone to win the TBS Championship.
AEW Ratings Suffer On New Year’s Eve
Those who tuned into the show no doubt enjoyed what they saw. AEW boss Tony Khan won’t have enjoyed how few people actually saw it.
The New Year’s Smash edition of AEW Dynamite averaged 398,000 viewers on TBS, down 22.1% from the last episode to air in its regular time slot two weeks earlier. This marks the lowest overall viewership for a Dynamite airing in its usual Wednesday night slot. The only two lower numbers for AEW’s flagship show have come when it has been moved to Tuesday.
The New Year’s Dynamite averaged a 0.07 rating in the 18-49 demo. That is down 12.5% from the December 17th episode – no ratings for the Christmas Eve Dynamite have yet been made available. This demo rating ties the record low rating that the show has garnered, regardless of time slot or day.
