AEW Demand Date For Title Match On Other Promotion’s Show
AEW Double Or Nothing will see several titles on the line but one championship will be defended before then despite protests from some.
Willow Nightingale captured the TBS Championship from Julia Hart at Dynasty and already finds herself heading for a major showdown for the gold at Double Or Nothing against Mercedes Mone.
However, before then Nightingale will put her gold on the line against Tam Nakano on a Stardom show, and it seems Tony Khan had to lay down the law about that match taking place.
AEW Insist On Date For Title Match
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Stardom wanted longer to promote the Nightingale/Nakano match but AEW insisted it had to take place on this show, strengthening the belief that Mercedes Mone will be leaving Las Vegas with the title:
That’s on Saturday night in Yokohama. The story behind that one is the match had been talked about and Stardom didn’t want the match this soon, they wanted to promote it longer. Basically, Tony Khan told them or AEW – I don’t know if it was Tony directly – but AEW told them you gotta do it this week, it’s got to be this week.
I would read that to mean what everyone assumes anyway is the reason it has to be this week is that Mercedes is winning that championship.
On Dynamite in Everett, Washington, Mercedes Mone and Willow Nightingale signed their contract for their Double Or Nothing match in a segment that ended with Nightingale sending Mone crashing through a table, much to the delight of the crowd.
