AEW Star Mocks CM Punk During Dynamite Promo
CM Punk is long gone from AEW yet one top star in the company felt the need to reference him during a Dynamite promo.
The last time CM Punk wrestled in an AEW ring was at All In London, which was the biggest show in AEW history. What we learned after the match is that Punk got into a fight of some sort with Jack Perry backstage before Punk wrestled Samoa Joe that night.
On the AEW Collision episode that followed, AEW Owner & CEO Tony Khan went on national television to proclaim that “my life was in danger” due to whatever Punk did backstage that day. CM Punk was fired for his actions.
After his AEW departure, Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series last November in Chicago. Punk’s first televised match after his return was at the Royal Rumble when, unfortunately, Punk tore his right triceps during the match. That injury will put Punk on the shelf for anywhere from six to eight months.
The torn triceps injury isn’t a new thing for CM Punk because when he worked for AEW, he tore his left triceps in September 2022. That was the night of All Out when Punk also got into a backstage fight with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. Needless to say, Punk has had bad luck with triceps injuries over the last two years.
Who Mentioned CM Punk’s Injury Issues On AEW Dynamite?
Wardlow was in the ring for a promo during AEW Dynamite in Tulsa. It was a chance for Wardlow to vent about not being given more opportunities in AEW. During his speech, he referenced former AEW World Champions like CM Punk and MJF although he didn’t mention them by name. Wardlow also talked about how he beat AEW World Champion Samoa Joe in the past as well.
When Wardlow discussed Punk, he mentioned Punk calling himself the “Best in the World” while also carrying around the “Real” AEW World Title in Punk’s last run in the company. Wardlow mocked Punk’s injury issues by saying his body was “still falling apart” because of Wardlow.
“Let’s look at some of the people who have held (the AEW World Championship)… ‘The best in the world’, the ‘real heavyweight champion’ – I beat his ass like nobody has in his entire career. His body’s still falling apart from me.”
Even though he’s on the injured list, CM Punk spoke to the WWE fans after Raw this past Monday saying he would be back when WWE was in Anaheim again.
