AEW Champions Expected To Push For Fired WWE Star To Join Them
A released WWE superstar could be headed to AEW when he becomes available.
There were multiple WWE stars released on Friday. Most of them were not being used on television that much, but some of them had long runs in the company. The released talents were:
* Cedric Alexander
* AOP – Akam & Rezar
* Paul Ellering
* Blair Davenport
* Sonya Deville was informed that her soon-to-be-expiring contract would not be extended, so it was essentially a release.
* Isla Dawn’s release wasn’t announced on Friday, but she posted about it on social media on Saturday.
In a post on social media, Cedric Alexander was thankful for his WWE run.
Thank you for the last 8 1/2 years!
Being a professional wrestler has been a dream of mine since I could form memories and I will continue to do so till the good Lord says otherwise.
#SeeYouIn90
The “#SeeYouIn90” part is a reference to 90 days until his no-compete clause ends. Even though Alexander was most recently on the NXT brand in the last six months, he was likely still on a main roster deal since he spent most of his WWE run on the main roster.
Cedric Alexander Could Reunite With AEW’s The Hurt Syndicate
During his WWE run, it could be argued that the most successful period for Alexander was when he was part of The Hurt Business group with Bobby Lashley, MVP, and Shelton Benjamin. As a tag team, Alexander and Benjamin were Raw Tag Team Champions after winning the titles in December 2020 and holding onto the titles for 84 days.
The trio of Lashley, MVP, and Benjamin are now in AEW as a group known as The Hurt Syndicate. They have been presented as a dominant fashion with Lashley and Benjamin winning the AEW Tag Team Titles in the first title match they had.
It was reported by Fightful Select that AEW sources expect the men within the Hurt Syndicate to push for the company to sign Alexander. The earliest that signing could happen is early May 2025, which is 90 days away.
