AEW Adding Time To Star’s Contract To Prevent WWE Switch

An AEW contract saga rumbles on.

After months of speculation, it was recently reported that Rey Fenix and Penta had either signed with WWE or that an announcement was imminent. The former AEW World Tag Team Champions have been linked with a move for several months, with the pair making little secret of their desire to leave.

However, things seemingly aren’t that simple.

That news was followed by a different report noting both Penta and Fenix remain under AEW contract, although they’re expected to land in WWE eventually.

AEW Working To Block WWE Switch

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer offered more details, reiterating that Penta’s contract expires within the next few months.

Regarding the update on Penta & Fenix, this is the current situation. They have not signed with WWE because they are still under AEW contract so all those stories are false. Obviously Penta is going when his deal is up which is within the next two months. Officially the story that has to be said is that he has not negotiated with WWE but will do so when his AEW deal expires.

Despite this, things are much more awkward when it comes to Rey Fenix. Meltzer explained that AEW is adding time to his deal due to time missed through injury, and this will see him forced to remain with the company for just short of another 12 months.

As far as Fenix goes, right now AEW is tacking on injury time which is nearly but not quite one year. Khan made both significant offers to stay but they wouldn’t sign a new deal.

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Saraya has signed a new contract with AEW to keep her with the company until September 2025. The British star had been linked with a return to WWE with her old deal due to expire before the end of September.
