Adam Page Explains Why He Calls Himself The “AEW Men’s World Champion”

Hangman Adam Page AEW World Champion

Equality is important to “Hangman” Adam Page.

At All In Texas, “Hangman” Adam Page beat Jon Moxley in a blood-soaked Texas Death Match to claim the AEW World Championship for the second time.

Since then, Page has worn the championship with pride while making successful defences against Moxley, MJF, Lee Moriarty, Samoa Joe, and Kyle Fletcher. The star has also made a point of referring to himself as the men’s World Champion, a notable break from wrestling tradition.

During a new interview with 99.9 The Fan, Page explained why he decided to make the subtle but important distinction.

“The men’s division has been billed as the world champion. That is the person you’re coming to the arena to see, that’s the world champion. And then women’s wrestling as it gained steam historically, they’ve created a separate championship that is the women’s world championship.

To me, if you have to specify that one’s for the women and the other one is the world championship, it felt like it created this hierarchy where you’re telling the viewer and the audience that one of them is more important than the other. I don’t think that’s the way our fans feel any longer.”

Adam Page Shines Light On Equality Issues

Expanding further, Page said that he’s trying to shine a light on equality and bring wider change by making small changes that he can control.

“I think specifying that asks people to stop and think, whether it’s fans, the audience, or people involved in wrestling, decision makers, or the wrestlers themselves, I’ve tried to do that. I’ve always tried to institute small changes in the world that I’m involved in to make the world more representative of how I feel like it truly is or should be.”

Back in the ring, Adam Page is set to meet Powerhouse Hobbs in a Falls Count Anywhere Match at Blood & Guts. Ten days later, at Full Gear, he’ll then defend his World Championship against Hobbs’ Opps teammate Samoa Joe.

Meanwhile, Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander is set to take part in the first-ever women’s Blood & Guts Match when she teams with “Timeless” Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Willow Nightingale, and Harley Cameron. Statlander will then defend her title against Mercedes Mone at Full Gear.
