Why 8-Time Champion Can Finally “Breathe Again” In WWE
8-time WWE Shinsuke Nakamura made his big return to WWE television on October 10, 2025, during Friday Night SmackDown in Perth, Australia. He hadn’t wrestled since June, so fans were pumped to see him step up and answer Sami Zayn’s open challenge for the United States Championship.
This match was especially cool because Nakamura ditched his villain “dark” persona and came out to his classic entrance music, showcasing the “King of Strong Style” vibe that fans love. The crowd pretty much went wild, and for a minute, it felt like the old Nakamura was back in full force.
The match ended in a no-contest because a hooded figure (who turned out to be Tama Tonga) interfered right when Nakamura was on the verge of victory. Moments later, MFT’s Talla Tonga, JC Mateo, and Tonga Loa also showed up to attack Nakamura and Zayn.
After the show and a series of house events in Japan, Nakamura spoke in an interview with Tokyo Sports, where he expressed his joy and excitement at returning to TV as his true self, which was more than just nostalgia; it was a mental and physical refresh.
“I finally feel like I can breathe again.”
WWE Star Shinsuke Nakamura Talks Retirement Plans
In the same interview, Shinsuke Nakamura also reflected on what comes next in his wrestling career. He brought up AJ Styles and John Cena, saying their steps toward retirement made him think about his own journey and future in the ring.
Nakamura clarified his earlier comments, which had fans worried that he might hang up his boots soon. While he’s thankful that he hasn’t had many major injuries so far, he admitted that wrestling forever probably isn’t realistic.
“Fortunately, I haven’t had many injuries, so it’s not like I have to retire right now. But nothing lasts forever. If you ask me about the next 10 years, I have my doubts, but if you ask me about five years, maybe. You never know what tomorrow brings, so I just have to do what I can now.”
