7-Time Champion Tipped To End Cody Rhodes’ WWE Title Reign

A major superstar may finally win the Undisputed WWE Championship after four years by beating Cody Rhodes.

Since losing the WWE Title to The Miz in 2021, Drew McIntyre has been on a mission to become world champion again. Although he had several opportunities to recapture the title, he failed.

Last year, The Scottish Warrior won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Nevertheless, the 40-year-old lost it a few minutes later to Damian Priest, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.

After failing to win back the World Heavyweight Title on RAW, McIntyre has now shifted his focus to becoming WWE Champion once more. At Wrestlepalooza, he challenged Rhodes for the championship, but came up short. He will now go head-to-head with The American Nightmare again at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Cody Rhodes Could Lose The WWE Title To Drew McIntyre Before Winning It Back

On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts discussed the highly anticipated clash between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre this Saturday.

The 42-year-old suggested The American Nightmare could drop the title to The Scottish Warrior at Saturday Night’s Main Event before winning it back at Royal Rumble in January.

It’s because Drew is that guy who wrestles in the big match and doesn’t win. The credible opponent who the babyface doesn’t have to take a loss against. You know, you can build to it and he makes you believe and then he losses. But we’ve seen it a lot. And people are right, there have been a lot of Drew McIntyre championship matches, which is why I want him to win it.

And again, I’m going back to my LA Knight thing. That doesn’t mean Drew has to go to WrestleMania as champion. That doesn’t mean Cody can’t win it back. Drew could win the title, carry it to the Royal Rumble, and Cody beats Drew at the Rumble. [45:01 onwards]
