Why 6-Time WWE World Champion Had Backstage Heat With Triple H
Triple H’s time in WWE as a wrestler was vastly different than what it is today.
During most of his wrestling career, The Game was a top heel in the company, often engaged in feuds against Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind, and The Undertaker.
As years turned into decades, he found new rivals challenging him for the top prize.
Being an industry veteran, The Cerebral Assassin commanded respect in the ring and backstage, and he did not necessarily gel with every wrestler he came across.
According to a former WCW star, Triple H also did not get along with 6-time World Champion Chris Jericho.
On the recent Keepin’ it 100 podcast with Konnan, Disco Inferno revealed that The King of Kings initially had problems with Y2J, blaming it on the mindset of the Kliq.
The Kliq was a backstage group featuring Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Sean Waltman, and Scott Hall.
Inferno said that the group always “looked down on undersized guys,” including Jericho, Dean Malenko, and Chris Benoit. [4:22 onwards]
Meanwhile, Jericho confirmed this, claiming that WWE wrestlers did not like talents who came from WCW, as they viewed them as inferior.
Triple H’s Real-Life Tension With Other Wrestlers
Triple H was involved in numerous real-life tensions with his peers in WWE.
Arguably, the most notable included CM Punk, whom the current CCO refused to put over at Night of Champions in 2011. During this time, Punk was one of the most over wrestlers.
Scott Steiner also expressed strong disdain for the 14-time champion, claiming he had beaten everybody from WCW, and accused him of using Stephanie McMahon to elevate his career.
Other wrestlers who have borne the brunt of Triple H’s hostility include Marc Mero, Paul London, Ken Shamrock, Rob Van Dam, and Booker T.
