38-Year WWE Veteran Officially Leaves AEW After 2 Years
A former WWE name who spent 38 years with the company has left AEW after spending just 2 years in Tony Khan’s organisation.
While most of the spotlight in WWE is on the wrestlers themselves, the broadcast team in the company are stars in their own right. Ring announcer Samantha Irvin won plenty of praise for her approach to the job before she unexpectedly quit WWE, and few believe anyone will come close to the legendary Howard Finkel in that role.
One man who provided the voice to countless WWE shows over the years was Tony Chimel. Chimel worked a variety of jobs in WWE, working his way up to being a ring announcer, where he was best known for his unique “Rated-R Superstar” announcement for Edge.
In November 2020, Tony Chimel was released by WWE, ending his 38-year association with the company. He revealed he had then moved onto a role with AEW, but it seems that has come to an end.
WWE Veteran Moves On From AEW
Speaking on the All Axxess Podcast, Chimel revealed that he was no longer working with Tony Khan’s company but only had good things to say about it:
I always had a good time there. They’re a little smaller operation and run things a little differently, but the people there are nice. I knew a lot of WWE people that are there now. It was a nice little run that I had there. Very grateful for the time that I had there. They do their thing the way they want to do their thing.
