3-Time WWE Champion Broke Their Hand Chopping Gunther
A WWE Hall of Famer sustained an injury while battling Gunther.
After dispatching Pat McAfee at Backlash, Gunther put his focus back on regaining the World Heavyweight Championship. He subsequently got his wish, beating Jey Uso on the June 9 episode of Raw to avenge his loss at WrestleMania 41.
With Monday Night Raw’s top prize back in his possession, Gunther set his sights on another long-time target, Goldberg.
The pair eventually met in Goldberg’s retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12. When all was said and done, Gunther saw off a valiant challenge from Goldberg, sending the former WCW star into retirement.
Goldberg Suffered Injury Against Gunther
While appearing on Real Talk with Mike Burke, Goldberg looked back on his final match in Atlanta and confirmed that he broke his hand during the match. According to the veteran, the injury occurred when he tried to trade chops with Gunther.
“The only thing that I hurt was, I think I broke my hand. Oh, I broke my hand. I broke a bone in my hand. [How did you do that?] Chopping him. I don’t know how to chop, and he chopped me, and it was funny. That’s the whole thing.”
During the same interview, Goldberg took WWE to task for having “some girl” break his legendary undefeated streak in WCW. The WWE Hall of Famer suggested that the company used Asuka to break his record as a personal slight because he used to work for WCW during the ‘Monday Night War.’
