3-Time World Champion May Join AEW After WWE Exit

Tony Khan AEW

A former WWE Champion could join AEW after leaving the Stamford-based company.

Mick Foley recently announced his departure from WWE, when his Legends contract expires in June 2026, due to the company’s association with United States President Donald Trump. Since then, he has been linked to a potential move to AEW.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful recently addressed the possibility of the WWE Hall of Famer joining Tony Khan’s promotion during his post-World’s End Q&A. He disclosed that Khan likes the Hardcore legend, which could lead the 60-year-old to play an on-screen role in AEW.

Well, I know that Tony Khan really likes Mick Foley. That was specified to me right after that happened… I think there’s always a possibility. I think Mick would probably be on screen, though, in some capacity. [H/T: Ringside News]

Mick Foley Almost Returned To The Ring To Face AEW Champion

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley last competed 13 years ago when he participated in the Royal Rumble match. He has since stepped away from in-ring action.

The three-time WWE world champion recently revealed at FanX 2025 that he considered returning to the ring for one final match, with a program with MJF being the most tempting. However, he decided not to do it due to his health issues.

I was thinking of doing a last match for my 60th birthday, which has come and gone, and so I didn’t do it. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor, and I really thought if I do some of the things I want to do in this match, I will completely mess up my hip and knee replacement.

I remember how painful it was to walk for like 10 years before I got that. I don’t want to go back there — not for any match or any amount of money. The guy who put forth the best proposal was MJF. And we would have had a heck of a six-week program.
