Here are the Top Five Wrestling News Stories of the Week.
Goldberg’s Son Refuses To Rule Out WWE Career
The son of WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg could yet become a second generation Superstar.
Gage Goldberg has featured multiple times on WWE television since his Father’s return to the company in late 2016, including being choked out by Bobby Lashley in a memorable angle at SummerSlam 2021.
The 18 year-old is currently featuring as a linebacker for the Colorado Buffaloes football team whilst attending the University of Colorado Boulder and admits that football is his first love.
Speaking during a recent chat with Sportskeeda’s Bill Apter, the 6ft tall prospect refused to rule out a future in professional wrestling, however, should an NFL career not materialise:
“I mean yes and no for sure. Wrestling would be cool and being amped up and everything and having all the adrenaline, but then also I know my place right now is with football.
So, I’m gonna live this out, I’ll see where that takes me. If it doesn’t work out, could be wrestling I don’t know. It’s a back-up plan.”
Charlotte Flair Drops Cryptic Tease As WWE Return Nears
Charlotte Flair’s WWE return is inching ever closer.
On the December 8th episode of SmackDown when she suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus in a match against Asuka. Although she quickly underwent surgery, it was reported that Charlotte Flair wouldn’t wrestle again in 2024.
But despite that timeline, the star is determined to keep fans guessing.
In a short clip posted on social media, a diamond featuring an image of Flair alongside her name is broken from a block of ice. As many fans have been quick to point out, the star regularly uses the catchphrase “Diamonds are forever, and so is Charlotte Flair. “
AEW Star To Make Changes To Character
A highly-rated AEW star is looking to take the company by storm.
Powerhouse Hobbs made a surprise return to AEW Dynamite on November 6th to team with Ricochet as he battled Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita.
During an interview with Uproxx, Hobbs explained how he’s looking to evolve his character now he’s back on television. The former TNT Champion broke down his plans to introduce more of his real-life character into his wrestling persona.
“I’m going to start bringing my life into my character, the things that I hate, the things that I love. I’m just gonna show everyone how much more intense I can be, how destructive I can be, how I don’t give a shit at times who’s in my way,” Hobbs says.
“In the end, this business, there only can be one. It’s going to come to a point where I’m going to show everybody that it’s all about me. They’re either going to be with me or be against me. It doesn’t matter. They boo me, I’m just going to start tearing everything up in front of them.
I think that’s what wrestling is missing a little bit. That one guy who makes people afraid, but they want to see him kick someone’s ass. I feel that it’s time to bring it out.”
AEW Star Toni Storm Quits Pro Wrestling
According to Toni Storm, her time with AEW is over.
Toni Storm hasn’t appeared in AEW since losing the Women’s World Title to Mariah May at All In. Although she hasn’t featured in AEW, Storm has continued to wrestle in Japan and Mexico, although neither run saw her pick up a singles win as she failed to capture the IWGP Women’s Title.
During an interview with James Dator of SBNation, Storm has now claimed she’s leaving wrestling behind after failing in AEW, Mexico, and Japan.
“I’m not used to being a loser. I’ve failed at everything. I lost in AEW, I lost in Japan, I lost in Mexico. This is the last you’ll hear from me again. Enjoy Mariah May as your champion. You can all enjoy that. AEW is just fine without me. Everything is going well for AEW. They don’t need Toni Storm.”
Storm closed the interview by saying “Chin down. Tits in. Don’t bother watching for the shoe.”
Major WWE Changes Coming For Roman Reigns In 2025
Roman Reigns will be on the move in early 2025.
On January 6th, 2025, Monday Night Raw will premiere on Netflix and WWE is pulling out all the stops to make sure things get off to a flying start.
The show will come live from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California and many of the company’s biggest names will be involved. This includes John Cena, several SmackDown stars, and Hip Hop megastar Travis Scott.
One of the SmackDown stars listed for the show is Roman Reigns, and it seems he’ll be sticking around on the red brand, at least for a while.
According to a new report via WrestleVotes Radio on SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon, Reigns will be a regular on Raw through the early months of 2025.
Joey Votes stated, “We are told the plans as of now, we’ll see Roman Reigns featured on Monday Night Raw and Netflix more so than SmackDown for at least the beginning part of the calendar year. We don’t have confirmation on any official roster move. However, there are plans for WWE’s biggest Raw to be a part of Raw on Netflix, much past episode number one.
Okay, so a source added that Netflix knows exactly what Roman Reigns brings to the table as far as viewership and credibility, and they are all for it. So Roman Reigns will be a key part of Monday Night Raw past episode number one throughout the Royal Rumble, you know, and I would imagine all throughout the WrestleMania season.”
