WWE Smackdown Spoilers for This Friday, December 25
This Friday’s edition of WWE Smackdown was taped earlier today at the WWE ThunderDome in Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, Florida. The reason it was taped is because it airs on Christmas night and WWE decided to tape it in order to give their roster some time off for the Christmas holiday.
Fans were allowed to watch the show via the ThunderDome with WWE asking fans to sign up for it and obviously a lot of fans did. The taping started at 7pm ET. These results are from WrestleZone:
* Roman Reigns defeated Kevin Owens to retain the Universal Title in a Steel Cage Match
This was the opening match. Owens hit Reigns with everything he had including a Powerbomb and a Stunner, but can’t beat Reigns to win the match. Owens was about to win, but Jey Uso interfered and handcuffed Owens to the cage. Reigns took advantage of the cheating from his cousin to walk out of the door and win the match. Owens called him a “little bitch” afterward.
* Charlotte Flair & Asuka defeated Bayley & Carmella and Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair to retain the Women’s Tag Team Titles
This was an elimination match. During Sasha’s entrance, she dropped the Smackdown Women’s Title and Bayley laughed at her. It could air during the broadcast, or WWE may choose to edit that out. The team of Bayley & Carmella were eliminated first when Banks pinned Bayley. Flair and Asuka won the match when Flair pinned Belair.
There was a backstage segment where The Street Profits gave Sami Zayn a gift. It was a shirt that said: “I was the Intercontinental Champion.” This was prior to Zayn’s IC Title match because Zayn had been wearing a shirt saying he was the Intercontinental Champion.
* Daniel Bryan defeated Jey Uso
Bryan was attacked by Jey when Bryan was making his entrance. Bryan was able to overcome that and Bryan won the match.
* Big E defeated Sami Zayn to win the Intercontinental Title in a Lumberjack Match
The main event was a Lumberjack Match with Smackdown wrestlers as the lumberjacks expect Raw’s Angel Garza was there as well. There were moments where heels like King Corbin were attacking Big E during the match. Zayn tried to leave multiple times, but the babyface lumberjacks stopped him. There was a brawl between the lumberjacks outside the ring, so Zayn tried to leave, but Apollo Crews was there to stop him. Big E hit the Big Ending for the pinfall win to become the new Intercontinental Champion. The babyface wrestlers celebrated with Big E to end the Christmas edition of Smackdown on a happy note.
TJR Thoughts: The Big E win made sense and was expected. I’m looking forward to checking it out.
There could be other backstage segments that are part of the show, but this is all we know for now.
