WWE Rumor: Ronda Rousey’s WrestleMania Plans, The Rock Involved?

TJR Wrestling

With Ronda Rousey officially signed to a WWE contract, now the attention turns to her in-ring debut at WrestleMania. According to Dave Meltzer at F4WOnline, the current plans look to be a mixed tag team match featuring Stephanie McMahon & Triple H against Ronda Rousey and an unnamed partner.

In case you needed a history lesson: Ronda Rousey made her first WWE appearance at WrestleMania 31 to assist Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with a beat down of the WWE’s ultimate power couple, and the rumors of The Rock & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon have never quite gone away.

Even with Rousey’s signing stoking the flames, between The Rock’s filming commitments and insurance reasons, his involvement in the match is questionable for now.

In 2013 at WrestleMania 29 in his WWE Championship Match against John Cena, The Rock sustained multiple injuries and filming had to be delayed on Johnson’s 2014 iteration of Hercules. Ever since then, he has only been seen in one single one-off match, which was a 10 second victory over Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 that required no bumps from The Rock.

Tommy’s Thoughts: Let’s get the bad news out of the way: it looks like Stephanie gets a WrestleMania match finally. I’m not quite sure that revisiting the WrestleMania 31 segment as an actual match 3 years later is the greatest idea, other than if Rousey straight-up STEAMROLLS over Stephanie. Hell, no need to worry about The Rock getting insured if the match is over before it begins.

For everyone waiting for an in-ring appearance from The Great One this year, the fact that it’s been almost five years since The Rock’s last real match (sorry, Erick Rowan: your 3 seconds don’t count) should clue you in.

Also, let’s hope that this means WWE has their plans for Ronda already looked in. In a span of just a few short months, we’ve gone from rumors of a Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen angle for WrestleMania to Rousey challenging Charlotte Flair back to the mixed tag team match. At the very least, I’m thrilled Charlotte Flair will be free to tear it up with a Becky Lynch or an Asuka in New Orleans this year.

Now, the question with Ronda Rousey’s partner becomes do they give that slot to someone under-the-radar that deserves the mainstream attention that being slotted with the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion will no doubt bring? Or do they keep it simple and throw a part-timer like Kurt Angle on her side? Not only would it make sense with his last few months of Triple H & Stephanie McMahon on his case, but an Olympic Gold Medalist & UFC Champion on the same team? Totally bad ass.
