WWE: Paige Says Divas Revolution Was Getting Stale

TJR Wrestling

WWE Diva Paige recently spoke with Channel Guide Magazine about her “Pipe bomb” promo on Monday Night Raw two weeks ago, how it feels to be a heel, and what went wrong with the Divas Revolution.

In regards to the freedom she was given with what she was allowed to say:

“I felt like the whole ‘Divas Revolution’ thing started to get stale. I thought it definitely needed a kick in the ass a little bit. Vince (McMahon) and our writers were so cool with the promo. They definitely gave me the freedom to say what I wanted. I kept it as tame as possible. I wanted to go a little bit harder, but I thought, ‘Nah, I’ll save it.’”

How she feels on getting to be the “bad guy”:

“It was definitely an adrenaline rush. I wanted to be the bad guy and am happy to be the bad guy. I don’t mind being hated. But the crowd was so receptive to it and great. They were cheering most of it. I was like, ‘No, that’s not the way it was supposed to be.’ It was great. I was very nervous before doing it. I just wanted to get out there and kick some butt and light a fire under the ‘Divas Revolution’ again.”

What she felt went wrong with the Divas Revolution:

“It was cool the first couple of nights with the NXT girls coming up. It was something new and fresh. Then we kind of went back to this stale state of having tag matches. We weren’t telling a story. Where was this going? With the whole Charlotte and Nikki (Bella) story, it was similar to me and Nikki. People were complaining about that.”

What part of the Divas storyline Paige is most looking forward to next:

“I feel like a ‘Pipe Bomb,’ or ‘Paige Bomb’ as I call it, is what was needed. Now a team has split up and everyone is going for everyone, which is great. I’m looking forward to seeing where everyone else goes.”

Mark’s reaction:

Paige is definitely right in saying the Divas Revolution was beginning to feel stale. It was nice to see fresh faces on the main roster who can actually wrestle, but the same mentality of “let’s just throw everyone in a tag match” was still present. Time really wasn’t being put into developing a worthwhile story for people to care about. With not having many divas on the main roster to begin with, putting them all in mini-stables made the Divas division feel even smaller. Splitting up PCB helps with expanding story possibilities and I expect them to do the same with Team BAD sooner or later because Sasha Banks is just too good to not be on her own.

Paige’s “pipe bomb” was a very good heel promo; I wouldn’t really call it a “pipe bomb.” When I hear “pipe bomb” I think of a legitimate shoot promo which Paige’s promo was not. That doesn’t take anything away from how good her promo on Raw was. It was edgy, delivered passionately, and added some much needed excitement into the Divas division. The word “pipe bomb” just gets overused a lot now. We should really try and come up with a better definition for this word.
