WWE: Original Plans For Chris Jericho & Dean Ambrose At WrestleMania 32

TJR Wrestling

Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose were originally supposed to face each other at WrestleMania 32. This is according to Dave Meltzer in his latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

During last year’s Night of Champions pay-per-view, Jericho made a surprise return as Roman Reigns and Ambrose’s mystery partner in a six-man tag match against The Wyatt Family. Jericho passed out from a submission hold by Braun Strowman, costing his team the win. After the match, Jericho intentionally bumped shoulders with Ambrose and walked away angrily. There was never any follow up from that event and Jericho went away for a while after that. When he returned again he was a face and any issues with Reigns and Ambrose were ignored. However, it seems like from this moment they had plans on turning Jericho heel and having a program with him and Ambrose.

Those plans seemed to be delayed till WrestleMania 32, but the debut of AJ Styles sent Jericho on another path. Jericho vs. Ambrose will likely happen down the road; maybe as soon as WWE’s next pay-per-view Payback on May 1. During this week’s Smackdown, Ambrose had a match against Breeze in which he won. When Ambrose was heading to the back, Jericho came out for his main event tag match. When he came out, the two had a stare-down; possibly alluding to things to come.

Mark’s reaction: It’s easy to wait until WrestleMania is over to say whether or not I would have preferred to see this match over that match, and so on. After being semi-disappointed in the Jericho/Styles match and disappointed in the Ambrose/Lesnar match, I would have liked to have seen if an Ambrose/Jericho match would have been better. However, I was very excited for Styles vs. Jericho and Lesnar vs. Ambrose, so at the time it was the right decision to go forth with those matches. Nobody knew at the time that they were just going to be meh.

As far as a future program between Ambrose and Jericho, I would be all for it. The lead up and promos between the two could be epic as well, since they’re both great talkers. I’d rather see Cesaro vs. Jericho for Payback, but Ambrose vs. Jericho could be a possibility for SummerSlam. We shall see.

Would you have preferred Ambrose vs. Jericho over Styles vs. Jericho IV, or Lesnar vs. Ambrose? Are you interested in a feud between Ambrose and Jericho in the future? Leave any of your thoughts in the comment section below.
