WWE News: The Shield Will Have a “Farewell Address” on Raw Tonight

TJR Wrestling

It was announced this afternoon that The Shield trio of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose will have a “Farewell Address” at the start of Raw tonight. Last night at WWE Fastlane, the group was successful in their first six man tag match since last fall. They defeated Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley by doing what they usually do in taking out the three guys one by one and then beating Corbin at the end with a Triple Powerbomb sometimes called a Shield Bomb.

After 25 minutes, they won the match and embraced in the ring for a post match hug as well doing their trademark Shield pose where they put their three fists together to show they are a tight group.

The story for tonight’s Raw comes straight from WWE’s social media accounts.

When I saw this on Twitter this afternoon, I tweeted that the fans in Pittsburgh should start a “Please Don’t Go” chant for Ambrose.

The reason it’s a “farewell address” is because Dean Ambrose is leaving WWE, which was a story that came out several months back and then WWE reported that Ambrose was not re-signing a new contract with the company. This is what WWE wrote on January 29th:

“Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE.”

That’s where things stand for now.

TJR Thoughts: As far as we know, Ambrose is still leaving with no announcement that he is staying, but I honestly think that with how much WWE is saying that last night’s match was “one last time” for The Shield, it’s very possible that he is staying after all. I don’t know anything more than anybody else about the subject. I’m just saying it just based on how much WWE is putting this story over. I think this could be a case of Ambrose simply wanting a break to try something else in his life. Perhaps he just wants the deal to expire, go spend a few months doing other stuff without wrestling and maybe he’ll be back later this summer or the fall or next year. Now that his close friend Roman Reigns is back, Ambrose could definitely have changed his mind.

I’ll be back tonight for a live WWE Raw Deal review to see what happens in this segment as well as the Triple H “Face to Face” segment with Batista.
