WWE News: Styles vs. Ambrose For WWE Title TLC Match at TLC Dec. 4

TJR Wrestling

The main event for WWE Smackdown’s Live next pay-per-view Tables, Ladders & Chairs (TLC) will see AJ Styles defending the WWE World Championship against Dean Ambrose in a TLC match. The match takes place on Sunday, December 4 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The rules for the match are pretty simple because we have seen it many times. The WWE Title will be hanging from the rafters, they will be able to use tables, ladders and chairs as weapons in the match. First man to use a ladder to climb up and retrieve the title will leave Dallas as the WWE World Champion.

Ambrose earned the title shot by pinning Styles in the main event of Smackdown Live this week thanks to an awkward distraction from James Ellsworth. You can read about all of that in my Smackdown review.

On the Talking Smack show post-Smackdown, Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager set up the TLC match.

It should be noted also that Styles will not defend the WWE Title at Survivor Series because he’ll be part of the Smackdown Live team in the men’s elimination match. Ambrose is on the team as well.

TJR Thoughts: I’m not surprised by the announcement because there are few options they could have went with. John Cena is filming the Fox TV show American Grit season two and will be busy with that through the end of the year. Randy Orton could be a future opponent of Styles, but he’s locked into a storyline with Bray Wyatt that could lead to another match at TLC although there have been a lot of twists there, so it’s no sure thing by any means. They might hold off on Styles vs. Orton until early next year.

This will be the third straight Smackdown brand PPV with Styles and Ambrose in the same match. Styles beat Ambrose for the WWE Title at Backlash in September, they were a part of a triple threat with John Cena at No Mercy in October and we assume that the feud will end at TLC in December.

Their matches have been great as they have routinely hit the three star level and often times get into four stars (out of five) because they usually get a lot of time. Styles is the best overall performer in WWE and Ambrose is damn good as well. Plus, they’ve worked together on house shows for months. The amount of reversals and nearfalls they do in a regular match is impressive. I like the idea of upping the ante with a TLC match. It should be a lot of fun.
