WWE News: Renee Young Will Be Guest Announcer Filling in for Jonathon Coachman on Aug. 13 Edition of Raw
It was announced today that Renee Young will be filling in for Jonathon Coachman on the August 13 edition of Raw, which is the last Raw before SummerSlam. Coachman has commitments announcing long drive golfing competitions in the summer, so he has missed a few episodes this year. In the past, WWE has used Booker T as the replacement, but now they are going with Young, who has been with WWE since 2012.
Young has called matches before when she called matches on Superstars and is currently part of the announce team for the second Mae Young Classic with Michael Cole and Beth Phoenix. Day one was taped yesterday and they are doing more today too.
The announcement was made in an article on ESPN. Young commented: “When Michael (Cole) told me, I was like, ‘This Monday?! What are you talking about?!’ I am so excited for this opportunity. To be sitting with Cole, who has been such a great champion of mine since I’ve been working for WWE, it’s going to be really cool.”
Cole added that it would be a history-making night for Young: “I believe this is the first time ever that we have had a woman in the booth for an entire episode of Monday Night RAW.”
Young also commented on Instagram.
A lot of people related to WWE chimed in as well.

TJR Thoughts: I’m happy for Renee. She does a really good job of announcing, she has a strong personality, she knows the business and the people in the company. It’s not like they are just throwing her into the fire. She has the experience to do well at this. Plus, I don’t like Coachman on commentary, so this will likely be an improved announce team at least this week.
This is also likely being done to give Young more experience heading into the women’s Evolution PPV on October 28 where Young is expected to have an announcing role on that show as well.
