WWE News: Mickie James Announces Knee Injury (Torn ACL), Will Undergo Surgery Soon

TJR Wrestling

WWE superstar Mickie James announced on Instagram live today that she has a torn ACL (knee injury) after a match she had on Saturday at a WWE live event in Waco, Texas. A torn ACL usually means surgery and a recovery time of about nine months.

Mickie noted that she doesn’t have a surgery date scheduled yet. She told me she had the MRI on Monday and found out that day, so it’s pretty new and she will update fans on the recovery process.

I talked to Mickie about it because I’ve known her for about a decade. She assured me that there is nobody to blame for the injury in her match with Carmella. It’s just one of those things that could to any athlete competing in a sporting event. She told me she heard me a pop in her knee, then she tried to get back up, collapsed and the match was thrown out by the referee because they knew she couldn’t go anymore. She also told me it was right near the end of the match, so that makes it really unfortunate.

Mickie has not appeared on the Smackdown brand since she was moved over there in the Superstar Shakeup in the last month because WWE didn’t have a storyline for her. Now that she’s out for what will be likely nine months or more, we probably won’t see her in the ring again until early next year.

TJR Thoughts: It makes me sad that she’s out because she’s a friend and I know how hard she works to balance everything in her life from being a mom to her son Donovan, her wrestling career and her music commitments as well. When she first told me it made me sad, but I know she’s going to bust her ass to get back as soon as possible. She’s one of the hardest working people I’ll ever know.

It’s also the first major injury she’s ever really had in wrestling because she’s been in the business for about 20 years now and has been very durable. It’s not an easy business. Injuries are a part of the game. Some people are luckier than others.

Mickie will turn 40 years old this August. Trust me, she can still compete with the best of them and will continue to do so when she gets back. Best wishes on your recovery, MJ.
