WWE News: McIntyre vs. Orton Match Receives Praise, Sonya Deville’s Future, Karrion Kross Injury, More

Here are some news and notes coming off of a busy WWE SummerSlam and Takeover XXX weekend of events.

Before I begin, happy birthday to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who turns 75 years old today. You know he’s going to keep working forever and not slow down much like most people that age.

McIntyre vs. Orton Update

* It was reported by PWInsider today that everybody behind the scenes in is thrilled with how the Drew McIntyre match with Randy Orton went at SummerSlam. If you missed it, Drew retained the WWE Title by hitting a backslide pin on Orton while neither man hit their finishing move.

The original plan was for McIntyre vs. Orton to be the last match at SummerSlam, but when WWE knew Roman Reigns was coming back, they decided to put Strowman vs. The Fiend on last.

It was also noted by PWInsider that even though Orton had some blood on his head, it was not a blade job and rather just something that happened when they did a headbutt spot. There was some blood around McIntyre’s eye as well, which happened after an eye gouge by Orton.

While this hasn’t been reported anywhere, it’s possible that McIntyre will face Orton again soon since it was such a close finish.

TJR Thoughts: I thought it was the best match of the night. They did an awesome job of making it feel like a big deal. I’m looking forward to a rematch.

Sonya Deville Has “Left” WWE

* The original plan for Sonya Deville’s match with Mandy Rose was for Rose to win the Hair vs. Hair Match and Deville would end up with a shaved head. However, after the home invasion incident that happened, WWE changed it this past Thursday on Smackdown. Rose ended up beating Deville clean at SummerSlam in their No Disqualification, “Loser Leaves WWE” match.

One of the reasons why Deville didn’t do the hair vs. hair stipulation is because her lawyers advised her to keep the same look she had while they go through the legal process against the man that invaded her home.

If you have missed anything in Sonya Deville home invasion case, we last posted an update three days ago. The man that went into her home was denied bail. It was clear that he intended on hurting her, but he was unable to get his hands on her and house guest Mandy Rose.

In a WWE Youtube interview after her SummerSlam match, Sonya told the interview: “Do not call me that ever again.” What that could mean is when Sonya does return in a few months (or whenever she returns), she could have a new WWE name or perhaps use her real name Daria Berenato. It’s expected that she will be back in WWE, but we don’t know when that will be.

Karrion Kross Injury Update

* The new NXT Champion Karrion Kross seems to believe he will get over his shoulder injury. He told ESPN in an interview:

“How I feel and what I’ve heard, I don’t know. I’m very intuitive with my body. And the range of emotion that I have right now, while it’s not what I would like it to be, for me personally, it would indicate to me that I’m going to get be able to get through this without any sort of extreme measures, so to speak. In my opinion, today.”

That sounds like a lot of rehab and not needing surgery, which would be a good thing.

Kross is getting an MRI on his shoulder to determine the severity on the injury.

Braun Strowman Five Years in WWE

* Lastly, the former Universal Champion Braun Strowman tweeted about his five years in WWE so far.

Strowman is very close to new Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. They used to travel together and Strowman is Godfather to one of Wyatt’s children.

Thanks for all of the support here on TJRWrestling during SummerSlam weekend. I’ll have WWE Raw review tonight as well.
