WWE News: Gauntlet Match on Smackdown Featuring Elimination Chamber Participants

TJR Wrestling

The WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view takes place next Sunday, February 17 in Houston. The main event of the show is likely going to be the WWE Championship match from Smackdown with the “new” Daniel Bryan defending the title against AJ Styles, Jeff Hady, Mustafa Ali, Randy Orton and Samoa Joe.

This week on Smackdown, the six men will compete in a Gauntlet Match to determine who enters the Elimination Match in the coveted #6 spot as the last man to enter the match. Here’s more from WWE.com about the Smackdown match:

A Gauntlet Match will take place this Tuesday night on SmackDown LIVE between the six combatants who will battle in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match at the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event. WWE Champion “The New” Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Mustafa Ali, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton and Samoa Joe will all run the gauntlet and the last Superstar standing will earn the right to enter the Elimination Chamber last on Feb. 17.

Who will gain the massive advantage, and momentum, that will come along with the Gauntlet Match victory? Find out this Tuesday night when SmackDown LIVE airs at 8/7 C on USA Network.

Gauntlet matches can sometimes take a long time as we have seen in the past, so there’s no telling how long they may go.

TJR Thoughts: It’s a good way to build up interest in the Elimination Chamber match by telling the story of the winner of the Gauntlet Match as somebody with a big advantage going into the Chamber on Sunday. I’ll pick Samoa Joe as the winner of this. Since he’s a strong heel, it makes sense to give him an advantage going into the match as well.

We will have our Elimination Chamber preview up on Friday. I would be very surprised to see Daniel Bryan lose the new WWE Title next Sunday.
