WWE News: Five Matches Announced for Stomping Grounds on June 23 Including Four Title Matches

There were five matches officially announced for WWE Stomping Grounds during the Super Showdown event earlier today. Two of the matches are rematches from Super Showdown.

Seth Rollins defeated Baron Corbin in the Universal Championship match at Super Showdown, yet he has to face him again. Why? Because Corbin blamed referee John Cone for the loss. Corbin claimed that Cone wasn’t counting fairly, then Cone took a chair away from Corbin, so Corbin argued with him and Rollins won with a rollup. Is the world clamoring for another Corbin title shot? No, but Vince McMahon likes tall guys.

Kofi Kingston beat Dolph Ziggler to retain the WWE Title at Super Showdown, yet Ziggler gets another shot at the title. The reason for that is because after Ziggler hit Xavier Woods with a cheap shot superkick, Woods kicked Ziggler to retaliate, the referee never saw that and Kingston followed up with Trouble in Paradise to win. Ziggler said he wanted to face Kofi without any possible interference, so that’s why there’s a Steel Cage match.

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre is a rematch from WrestleMania two months ago.

Also, Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans is a rematch from Money in the Bank last night.

The only fresh matchup is Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss, which is for the Smackdown Women’s Championship even though Bliss is a Raw wrestler. What a confusing time to be a WWE fan!

Here’s the advertised lineup for Stomping Grounds on June 23 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington.

Universal Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Baron Corbin

WWE Championship Steel Cage Match: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre

Raw Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lacey Evans

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

There are two weeks of Raw and Smackdown before Stomping Grounds, so there’s plenty of time to add more matches to the card.
