WWE: Latest Plans for The Rock at WrestleMania 32

TJR Wrestling

The Rock is currently scheduled to face off against Triple H at next year’s WrestleMania 32, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer.

Ever since The Rock and Ronda Rousey’s appearance at WrestleMania 31, the hope within WWE has been to have Rousey and The Rock involved in their own matches next time around. The Rock would be squaring off with Triple H while Rousey would be facing Stephanie McMahon. There were even rumors of a potential mixed-tag match between these four.

However, Rousey has committed to filming a movie next year which will coincide with WrestleMania 32 taking place. Since it is known that she won’t be able to make the event, it was sort of universally assumed that The Rock/Triple H match would be done away with all together. There was even a lot of speculation that The Rock would instead have a SummerSlam 2002 rematch against Brock Lesnar on the grandest stage of them all (since the Lesnar/Undertaker feud seems to be coming to an end at Hell in a Cell).

Apparently this isn’t the case at all and WWE is still keen on going forward with the Triple H/Rock match for WrestleMania. WrestleMania 32 will take place on April 3, 2016 from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Mark’s reaction:

I mostly found this interesting because it put to rest the Lesnar vs. Rock rumors for WrestleMania 32. Their match was a rumor that carried a lot of weight, especially over this weekend when Steve Austin decided to take to Twitter on Friday and shoot down the idea that he would face Brock at next year’s WrestleMania. With no Austin or Undertaker, Rock seemed like the next logical choice for Brock’s opponent at Mania. I figure that Rock’s name was nixed from the list of guys to face Lesnar due to the fact that Rock got seriously injured in his last WrestleMania match against Cena (in 2013). The Rock may be more likely of suffering an injury in the ring against Brock than he would against someone like Triple H who would go out of his way to make sure Rock leaves Arlington unscathed.

From the WWE’s perspective it makes sense for Rock to be on the card at Mania since it looks like they may possibly be losing the chance of having Sting compete due to his injury. The WWE will take any opportunity they can at getting to promote a giant celebrity like The Rock in a match on their biggest event of the year. Do I want to see The Rock and Triple H wrestle each other rather than the younger guys on the roster? No. I’d much rather see a heel Triple H against a babyface Seth Rollins and a babyface Rock against a heel Roman Reigns.

Are you looking forward to a Rock vs. Triple H match at WrestleMania or would you rather see them in a match with newer talent? Would you have rather wanted Rock to face Lesnar instead of Triple H? Any suggestions as to who you think should be Lesnar’s opponent at WrestleMania? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
