WWE: Chris Jericho Talks WrestleMania 32, Raw After WrestleMania & More

TJR Wrestling

On a recent edition of his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Chris Jericho talked about various topics including: how nothing beats competing at WrestleMania, where his match with AJ Styles ranked for the night, and the Raw after WrestleMania. He also commented on his status with WWE.

Jericho’s feelings about competing at WrestleMania.

“When you actually get there, you get to that stadium and see 101,000 people, I’ll tell you what, man, it’s an experience like no other. And it doesn’t matter how many shows I’ve done, how many matches I’ve had, how many WrestleManias I’ve had, there [have] been 12, nothing beats going out there in front of that type of crowd and having a great match. And it’s what we do this for.”

Jericho considers his match with Styles to be one of the three best of the night.

“I had a great time working with AJ Styles all four of our matches and the last one at WrestleMania [32] was exactly what we wanted. And especially after the amazing spectacle of the seven-man Intercontinental [Championship] ladder match. Our mission was to bring it down a bit and then build it back up with wrestling. And we did that. It was one of the best matches on the show. I don’t mind saying that. I think our match, the seven-man ladder match, and I think the women’s match were the three highlights of that show.”

Jericho talks about his Fatal 4-Way match on the Raw after WrestleMania.

“The main event match with me, and [Kevin] Owens, AJ, and the returning Cesaro is another one of my favorites. Two five-star matches in a row, whatever you want to call them, two great matches in a row. And four-ways are not easy to do, but we put it together and banged it out.”

On being happy the Raw crowd did not hijack his time on the show.

“The night after WrestleMania, all the jack offs seem to show up and like to chant their own things and they were doing it to an extent, but they weren’t doing it to us. And they shouldn’t [have]. It was a great match. Instead of chanting, ‘we are awesome’ and ‘beach ball party’ or whatever, they were chanting, ‘this is wrestling’, ‘this is awesome’, and all of that sort of thing. And they were right. They got a great show. And they want to boo the good guys and cheer for the bad guys and that’s fine.”

Jericho’s comments on his current run in WWE and how long it will last.

“For all you jack offs that think you can predict what my future is, I’m not going anywhere. Am I going to be here next week? Yeah. Am I going to be here one more month? I’m not going to tell you. You’re just going to have to wait and see.”

Mark’s reaction: I thought Jericho vs. Styles at WrestleMania 32 was solid, but it wasn’t their best match. What makes me curious is that he says all of their matches, including their Mania match, was exactly what they wanted. Why was Styles losing at his first WrestleMania part of the plan? Since AJ headed straight to the main roster and is being booked as a top guy, wouldn’t it make sense for him to go over at WrestleMania to solidify his “top star” status? Especially since he won the number one contender match for Reigns’ WWE Title the next night on Raw. I guess the win on Raw is supposed to make it seem like the Jericho loss didn’t mean much, but it’s just more aggravating 50/50 booking. Again, solid match. Ending just confused me. I also don’t think it was the five star match Jericho’s making it out to be.

I agree with what Jericho says when he talks about the crowds hijacking the show. People who pay their hard earned money of course have the right to do whatever they want. I just think it’s a little disrespectful to the wrestlers when your attention is on knocking a beach ball back and forth more so than watching the show. I understand why they do that sort of thing though as you usually see that stuff happening during the boring segments of the show.

As far as Jericho’s future with WWE and his current run, I’m going to take a wild guess and say that he’ll be around on a regular basis until SummerSlam. WWE’s in need of some top level heels, and I feel that Jericho will hang around until WWE figures that problem out; at least until SummerSlam.

How long do you think Jericho’s current WWE run will last? Which of the four Jericho vs. Styles matches were your favorite? Leave your thoughts on any or all of the above in the comment section below.
