WWE Backlash Lineup for May 6 Including WWE Championship Rematch

TJR Wrestling

The next major WWE pay-per-view event is called Backlash and it takes place next Sunday, May 6th in Newark, New Jersey. The card now has six official matches with one more that’s likely. As you know by now, all WWE PPV events will feature Raw and Smackdown talents on the same show. No more brand exclusive PPV events.

A big match was announced for Backlash following the Greatest Royal Rumble event yesterday. It’s round three for WWE Champion defending the title against Shinsuke Nakamura after their GRR match ended in a double countout.

WWE Championship: AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura – I think this will need to be a stipulation match. They can figure that out on Smackdown. I think Nakamura will win the WWE Title here. If they don’t do it then maybe Styles will be wearing a jock and no sell the Nakamura low blow spot leading to the finish.

Samoa Joe vs. Roman Reigns – It is not for the Universal Championship since Reigns failed to win the Universal Title at the Greatest Royal Rumble event.

Intercontinental Championship: Seth Rollins vs. The Miz – The Miz gets a singles rematch against Rollins for the IC Title that Rollins won at WrestleMania.

Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass – It was announced on Smackdown last week. They continued the story when Cass eliminated Bryan when they were in the final three in the Rumble match on Friday.

Raw Women’s Championship: Nia Jax vs. Alexa Bliss – The former champion Miss Bliss gets her rematch.

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Carmella vs. Charlotte Flair – Same as above with Charlotte getting her rematch.

Expected match, but not official yet:

US Championship: Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton – There was a triple threat that Orton won against Bobby Roode and Rusev for a title match at Backlash, which was won by Orton.

When WWE tweeted about matches for Backlash with separate posts for Styles/Nakamura and Reigns/Joe, they didn’t include Hardy vs. Orton with the others. It’s not listed on WWE.com yet. We should know if it’s official on Smackdown this week.

There will likely be two or three more matches added to the card. The show is starting at 8pmET with an expected run time of about three hours. We will update the finalized card next week most likely after Smackdown when they announce more matches.
