WWE Announces That SummerSlam 2020 Will Be In Boston

TJR Wrestling

The 2019 edition of SummerSlam takes place in Toronto this weekend with NXT Takeover on Saturday, SummerSlam on Sunday, Raw on Monday and Smackdown Live/205 Live on Tuesday. Today, we found out that next year’s SummerSlam festivities will take place in one of America’s largest cities, Boston.

The news was first reported by the Boston Globe with SummerSlam set to take place on Sunday, August 23 at TD Garden where WWE regularly hosts events in Boston. It’s the home of NBA’s Boston Celtics and NHL’s Boston Bruins as well. Obviously, WWE wants to keep SummerSlam as an arena show rather than putting it into a bigger stadium like WrestleMania and Royal Rumble.

As usual, there will be four nights of live WWE action during SummerSlam weekend. It’s different from this year because Smackdown will be on Fox, so the schedule looks like this.

* Friday, August 21 = Smackdown Live (on Fox)

* Saturday, August 22 = NXT Takeover Boston (on WWE Network)

* Sunday, August 23 = SummerSlam (on WWE Network)

* Monday, August 24 = Raw (on USA Network)

Boston’s Mayor Martin J. Walsh commented on SummerSlam coming to Boston next year: “On behalf of the City of Boston, we are excited to once again host WWE SummerSlam at TD Garden. SummerSlam attracts fans from all across the world, and we are excited to welcome them all to our city for this hallmark WWE event.”

John P. Saboor, who is WWE’s Executive Vice President of Special Events, is excited: “This news is unprecedented in that it will serve as the first time the WWE will present four consecutive nights of events at TD Garden. We are thrilled to bring WWE’s biggest event of the summer to Boston in 2020. We are grateful to Mayor Walsh, Governor Baker and our partners at TD Garden and look forward to working with them to welcome the world to one of America’s great sports and entertainment cities.”

This is the third city and location that we know WWE PPVs for next year:

Royal Rumble 2020 will be at Minute Maid Park in Houston on January 26.

WrestleMania 36 will be at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on April 5.

SummerSlam 2020 will be at TD Garden in Boston on August 23.

Additional details, including ticket availability and travel packages, will be announced in the near future.

TJR Thoughts: It’s a good choice because Boston is one of America’s biggest cities with a lot of wrestling history. There are several WWE superstars from the Boston area including John Cena (remember him?), Kofi Kingston, Sasha Banks (remember her?) and more.
