WWE Announces New Pay-Per-View Named “Stomping Grounds” (Replaces Backlash) on June 23

TJR Wrestling

There’s a new WWE pay-per-view name that will debut on June 23: Stomping Grounds. It will take place at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington and it will replace the Backlash name that was originally scheduled for June 16.

If you read TJRWRESTLING regularly then you know we have had several posts up about how the Saudi Arabia show that was originally booked for early May is now set for June 7 although WWE hasn’t officially announced that yet. Due to that, the June 16 Backlash show has been pushed back because WWE didn’t want two PPVs so close together. Last week, the Wrestling Observer mentioned the June 23 date and in Tacoma, so now it’s official after the Tacoma Dome Facebook posted this video about it.

Thanks to TJRWrestling reader Erin Somers for letting me know about the PPV name change.

As you can see in the video, the June 24 edition of Raw will take place in nearby Everett, Washington as well. Tickets go on sale this Friday.

They also mentioned Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton as a match at Stomping Grounds, which could change between now and June 24. That’s just WWE advertising something, but it really doesn’t mean anything when a show is two months away.

Here’s the updated WWE PPV listing for 2019:

WWE Money in the Bank – May 19, 2019 – Hartford, CT
“International PPV” – June 7, 2019 – Saudi Arabia
WWE Stomping Grounds – June 23, 2019 – Tacoma, WA
WWE Extreme Rules – July 14, 2019 – Philadelphia, PA
WWE SummerSlam – August 11, 2019 – Toronto, ON
WWE Hell in a Cell – September 15, 2019 – Atlanta, GA
WWE Clash of Champions – October 6, 2019 – Sacramento, CA
“International PPV” – November 1, 2019 – Saudi Arabia
WWE Survivor Series – November 24, 2019 – Chicago, IL
WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs – December 15, 2019 – Minneapolis, MN

It’s also expected that the June 8 NXT Takeover event that was scheduled in San Jose is likely going to be changed as well, but that’s not official yet either. I’ll update that at a later date when we have more info on it.

TJR Thoughts: I’m not sure about the Stomping Grounds name, but I guess we’ll get used to it. At least it’s better than “Great Balls of Fire” from two years ago.
