May 6th – On This Day In Wrestling History

1986 – ‘The David Von Erich Memorial Parade Of Champions’ event was held by World Class Championship Wrestling in front of 32,123 fans at Texas Stadium in Irving (Near Dallas), Texas. In an emotional main event, Kerry Von Erich defeated Ric Flair to win his only NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

2000 – WWF Insurrextion was held at Earls Court in London, England. This event was a UK-only PPV broadcast. On the show, The British Bulldog defeated Crash Holly to win the WWF Hardcore Championship. In the main event, The Rock retained the WWF Championship in a triple threat match against Shane McMahon and Triple H.

2002 – World Wrestling Federation Entertainment (The corporate name of the World Wrestling Federation) announces via press released that they have changed their name to World Wrestling Entertainment and will henceforth be known as WWE. The change was as a result of a lawsuit brought by The World Wildlife Fund regarding usage of the WWF initials.

2016 – WWE released a number of talent including El Torito, Alex Riley, Santino Marella, Damien Sandow, Wade Barrett, Cameron, Zeb Coutler and Hornswoggle (Who was released exactly ten years to the day after initially signing with the company).

2018 – WWE presented their Backlash PPV from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. In the main event, Roman Reigns defeated Samoa Joe. No titles changed hands at the event.
