May 13th – On This Day In Wrestling History
1988 – A one night tournament for vacant NWA United States Championship was held in Houston, Texas. Barry Windham took the title with a win in the final over Nikita Koloff.
1994 – Despite never having successfully hit an offensive move, never mind getting a win, Mikey Whipwreck shocked ECW by winning the Television Championship from Pitbull #1 (Gary Wolfe) at a TV taping in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The win came again without Whipwreck hitting any offense. At the start of the match, Wolfe was distracted by The Tazmaniac and he was rolled up by Whipwreck.
1995 – ECW ‘Enter The Sandman’ took place at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During the event, The Sandman successfully defended the ECW World Championship twice, first against Cactus Jack and the Shane Douglas.
2002 – Hulk Hogan retained the WWE Undisputed Title against Ric Flair in a No Disqualification match on WWE Raw from Toronto. This was surprisingly the only televised singles match that Hogan and Flair had in the WWE. In the main event (Yes, a title match between Hogan and Flair was not the final match on the TV card!) ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin defeated Booker T in a Lumberjack Match. Also on the card, Trish Stratus won the WWE Women’s Championship in a mixed tag-team match when her and Bubba Ray Dudley defeated Steven Richards and Jazz with both the women’s title and Dudley’s Hardcore Title on the line.
2005 – Bryan Danielson defeated Homicide in the main event of ROH ‘The Final Showdown’ from Dayton, Ohio. And Austin Aires retained the ROH World Heavyweight Title against James Gibson.
2006 – Austin Aires & Roderick Strong retained the ROH World Tag Team Titles against The Briscoes at ROH ‘Ring of Homicide’ in Edison, New Jersey.
2007 – In the main event of TNA Sacrifice from Orlando, Kurt Angle won the NWA World Heavyweight Title in a Triple Threat match against Christian Cage & Sting. Also Robert Roode defeated Jeff Jarrett, Brother Devon & Brother Ray retained the NWA Tag Team Titles in a Triple-Threat Tag match against Scott Steiner & Tomko, and Hernandez & Homicide. Also, Samoa Joe pinned A.J. Styles in a singles match.
2011 – NJPW presented its first ever standalone show in the USA with ‘Attack On East Coast: Night 1’ in Rahway, New Jersey. In the main event, Rhino and Charlie Haas defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi and Togi Makabe.
2012 – At TNA Sacrifice in Orlando, Florida, Bobby Roode retained the TNA World Heavyweight Title in a Ladder Match against Rob Van Dam in the main event. Also, Christopher Daniels & Kazarian defeated Magnus & Samoa Joe for the TNA World Tag Team Titles and Mr Anderson pinned Jeff Hardy in a singles match. Kurt Angle also defeated A.J. Styles by submission.
2020 – At a TV taping for the 400th episode of NXT, Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel) defeated Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher for the NXT Tag Team Championship after Thatcher turned on Riddle.
