July 2nd – On This Day In Wrestling History
2001 – The main event of WWF Monday Night Raw at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington, featured the first ever WCW match on WWF television. (WCW had been bought out by WWF in March the same year). The match saw Booker T defend the WCW Championship against Buff Bagwell and is remembered for all the wrong reasons. Bagwell was wrestling his first match in months and quickly ran out of steam, the crowd were chanting “Boring” and “this Match Sucks” throughout, and the loudest cheers came when ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Kurt Angle (both heels at the time) attacked Booker T. It was Bagwell’s one and only WWF match and was named as ‘the most awkward match in WWE history’ by WWE.com in 2013.
2002 – At a taping of WWE Smackdown in Boston, Massachusetts, Edge and Hulk Hogan teamed up and defeated Billy and Chuck to win the WWE Tag Team Championship titles. It was Hogan’s only tag team championship with the company, and the start of Edge’s 8th reign as a tag team title holder.
2005 – IWA-MS No Blood, No Guts, No Glory was held at the Valparaiso National Guard Armory in Valparaiso, Indiana. In the main event of the show Axl Rotten, Bull Pain, Chris Hero, Corporal Robinson, and Ian Rotten won a 3-Way Tag Team Wargames Double Cage Match against B.J. Whitmer, Eddie Kingston, J. C. Bailey, Mark Wolf, Steve Stone, and the team of Chandler McClure, Eric Priest, Sal Thomaselli, Tank, Vito Thomaselli.
2007 – Umaga defeated Santino Marella to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship on an episode of Monday Night Raw from Dallas, Texas. It was his second time winning the title.
2011 – At the OVW Saturday Night Special in Louisville, Kentucky, Jason Wayne defeated Mike Mondo to become the OVW Heavyweight Champion.
2016 – OVW Saturday Night Special – Anarchy was held in Louisville, Kentucky. Jessie Belle won a Fatal 4-Way match against Deonna Purrazzo, Maria James, and Scarlet to win the OVW Women’s Title.
2017 – Day Two of the NJPW G1 Special in USA was in Long Beach, California. In the main event Kenny Omega defeated Tomohiro Ishii by pinfall to become the IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion.
2017 – GFW Slammiversary XV took place at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. On the PPV:
- LAX (Santana and Ortiz) outlasted El Hijo del Fantasma and Drago, Naomichi Marufuji and Taiji Ishimori, and Garza Jr and Laredo Kid to retain the GFW Tag Team Titles in a Fatal 4-Way match.
- DeAngelo Williams and Moose defeated Eli Drake & Chris Adonis.
- In a Strap Match EC3 defeated James Storm by pinfall.
- Jeremy Borash and Joseph Park defeated Josh Mathews and Scott Steiner in a No Disqualification tag team match.
- In a Full Metal Mayhem Tag Team match Eddie Edwards and Alisha Edwards defeated Davey Richards and Angelina Love after Edwards hits the Sunset Bomb through a table on Richards and gets the pin.
- Sonjay Dutt defeated Low Ki 2-1 in a 2 Out Of 3 Falls match to retain the GFW X Division Championship.
- GFW Women’s Champion Sienna defeated Knockouts Champion Rosemary via submission in a Title Unification Match.
- GFW Champion Alberto el Patron pinned Impact Champion Bobby Lashley to become the Unified World Champion.
2020 – Night Two of AEW Dynamite Fyter Fest was taped at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida and would air on July 8th. On the show:
- Kenny Omega and Adam Page defeated Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship belts.
- Lance Archer defeated Joey Janela by pinfall.
- The Butcher and The Blade and Lucha Brothers (Pentagón Jr. and Rey Fénix) defeated FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) in an 8-Person Tag Team Match, with Pentagon getting the pin on Matt Jackson.
- Nyla Rose defeated Kenzie Paige and KiLynn King in a Handicap Tag Team match.
- Colt Cabana and The Dark Order (Brodie Lee and Stu Grayson) defeated SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky) in a Six-Person Tag Team match.
- In the main event of the show Le Champion Chris Jericho defeated Orange Cassidy after connecting with the Judas Effect elbow and getting the pin.
