Vince McMahon Set To Take Over Production Of NXT Says New Report
With a variety of changes seemingly on the horizon for NXT, a new report suggests that Vince McMahon and right-hand man Bruce Prichard will be taking over the production of the show.
Several changes have been mooted for NXT in recent months following a mass release from the roster that saw thirteen talents released from their WWE contracts. A new set is in the works and the Capitol Wrestling Center seemingly undergoes an overhaul and a new multi-coloured logo has been released for the once black and gold brand as well as a new theme song by rap star Wale.
A change of tact in the recruitment for NXT has also been the subject of reports with NXT Champion Samoa Joe confirming that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon sends down edicts on the type of talent he wants to be recruited but that this is nothing new.
Now Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live has reported that a bigger change altogether may be in the works as Vince McMahon is set to become more hands-on with the brand that had previously been the preserve of Triple H:
“Like anything, anything can change, anything is possible but I talked a while ago about how we’re gonna have a new NXT. It’s gonna be like the old NXT. I believe – I’ve heard from several people now that when they go back to live shows, this is going to be a Vince McMahon [and] Bruce Prichard production.”
Dave Meltzer later added:
“McMahon and Prichard will be behind the big decisions, not the little ones, and will be behind marketing, promotion, and direction. Their role in booking may only be regarding those at the top.”
Fightful Select has also weighed in on the situation with their own report, saying that many talents have not been informed of that news and are in the dark on whether the plans will come to fruition. It was also noted that Prichard and McMahon weren’t seen at the recent set of tapings but that “influential” producer Jamie Noble has been seen more frequently at the Performance Center.
Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men podcast added his own snippet of information, reporting that he had been told:
“Vince has been hands-on and will continue moving forward.”
Bruce Prichard returned to WWE in 2019 and replaced both Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff as the Executive Director for both RAW and SmackDown.
WWE President Nick Khan recently confirmed the “complete revamp” coming NXT’s way but said that Triple H was leading that endeavour.
NXT TakeOver: 36 took place over SummerSlam weekend and saw Samoa Joe become the first three-time NXT Champion while Raquel Gonzalez retained her NXT Women’s Title against former partner Dakota Kai.
