Vader Tweets About WWE Hall Of Fame – Does It Mean Anything?

TJR Wrestling

With the new year upon us, it’s that time of year when WWE fans start thinking about the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony that will be held on the Saturday night prior to WrestleMania. While no official names for WWE’s Hall of Fame ceremony have been confirmed, former WCW World Heavyweight Vader (who also went by the name Big Van Vader) sent out a tweet late on Sunday night suggesting that he might be joining the HOF this year.

At this point it’s just a rumor because or for all we know, he could just be tweeting an image out there to get people talking about how he should be in the Hall of Fame. It could also be his way of telling us that he got the call recently and he wanted to put it out there.

One thing I know from past year’s of writing about the Hall of Fame inductions is that most of the time the talent is told about it months before it’s announced on television. They are usually told not to say anything because WWE wants to announce it on television first. Maybe Vader messed up.

TJR Thoughts: If he is in the WWE HOF this year then I have to say it’s about damn time. Vader was my favorite wrestler in WCW in the early 1990s. He was unlike anybody else because he was a legit 350 to 400 pound guy that could move around the ring well, even do moonsaults and he had good matches with everybody. Not only that, but when he threw punches or forearm shots it looked like it hurt. Years later I read about how he had a reputation for working stiff, which caused some heat with some people. I know that big names like Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels didn’t particularly like working with him although they have probably cooled off about it over the years.

When he went to WWE in early 1996 I was so thrilled. I’ll never forget when he destroyed Gorilla Monsoon and it made him look like such a badass that didn’t give a damn about anything. Sadly, his WWE run wasn’t that great and if you only saw him in WWE you missed out on his greatness. Go check out his WCW works as well as some matches in Japan because he did awesome there as well.

Simply put, Vader is one of the best big men ever. He deserved a spot in WWE’s Hall of Fame years ago. I’m not the kind of guy to get that worked up over who is or isn’t the HOF, but a lot of people care and I know the talent cares, so I hope they do induct him this year.

His catchphrase was: “It’s time! It’s Vader time!” In 2016, here’s hoping it’s 2016 WWE Hall of Fame time.

We’ll update this story down the road if there’s more to it.

In closing, here’s a pic of Vader with Ric Flair doing a promo. Yes that’s nail polish on Ric Flair’s finger. Why? Because after he lost a retirement match to Hulk Hogan in late 1994, he came back for revenge while dressed as a woman. Why? Because WCW was fucking stupid at times, that’s why.
