Updated WWE Backlash Lineup for June 14: Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus Added

TJR Wrestling

There are now five official matches for the WWE Backlash pay-per-view on Sunday, June 14, which is eight days away. It’s not known yet if the whole PPV will be live from the WWE Performance Center or if WWE will tape some matches before next Sunday. There are WWE tapings on Monday and Tuesday next week, so we should learn more about what is pre-taped early next week. As viewers at home, it doesn’t matter that much in terms of what is live and what is taped.

As you can see on the graphic above, WWE is putting the “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” tagline on the graphics for everything on the PPV. It’s going to confuse a lot of fans wondering why that is, but that’s the way WWE is promoting the show.

A new match was added during Smackdown last night. That match will see Jeff Hardy face off against his rival Sheamus. Here’s how WWE.com describes it:

Jeff Hardy has proven himself as one of the toughest Superstars in WWE history, but Sheamus is intent on being the one obstacle that finally breaks the legendary competitor. The Charismatic Enigma and The Celtic Warrior are set to meet at WWE Backlash in a matchup of former WWE Champions. Hardy earned the victory in the last matchup with a shocking rally to seal the win. The rivalry goes far beyond the ring, as Sheamus had his sights set on Hardy throughout the iconic Superstar’s return to action.

The Charismatic Enigma was recently apprehended after a hit-and-run incident in the WWE Performance Center but was released from custody by the Orlando police after passing the required sobriety tests, therefore absolving Hardy of the charges. Hardy believed The Celtic Warrior was to blame for orchestrating the scheme, but Sheamus met those aspersions with a brutal Brogue Kick attack.

Will Sheamus deliver the crushing blow, or is Hardy ready to dispatch of the latest roadblock in his comeback journey?

It makes a lot of sense for Jeff to win again, but WWE may want to have Sheamus look dominant to build him up as a future Universal Title contender.

I believe Edge vs. Randy Orton will be the main event of the show that has five matches now. Money in the Bank last month had seven matches and was less than 2 hours, 30 minutes, so if WWE wants to follow a similar pattern then they may only add two or three more matches to the card.

Here’s what the lineup looks like for Backlash.

Edge vs. Randy Orton

WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Bobby Lashley

Universal Championship: Braun Strowman (c) vs. The Miz and John Morrison

Raw Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs. Nia Jax

Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus

You can watch WWE Backlash streaming on WWE Network on Sunday, June 14, at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
