Update On WWE Plans For Nakamura vs. Balor & What NXT Takeover Brooklyn Main Event Might Be

TJR Wrestling

The next set of tapings for NXT will take place this Friday June 24 at Full Sail University. A huge match is set to take place as Shinsuke Nakamura will wrestle his good friend Finn Balor. This is according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this week and a graphic of last night’s NXT shows that it will take air in three weeks.

balor vs. nakamura

During last week’s NXT TV episode on June 15, Balor was in the ring wondering what was next for him in NXT. Nakamura interrupted him, challenged him to a match and the two friends that knew eachother well in Japan shook hands to agree to the match.

According to Meltzer, the plan is for Nakamura to headline the NXT Takeover Brooklyn on August 20 against NXT Champion Samoa Joe. It’s not known if Balor will be wrestling on the NXT Takeover Brooklyn event because he could be on the main roster by then with the July 19 draft looming.

Another match that will be taped is Dash & Dawson defending the Tag Team Title against Jordan & Gable in a 2 out of 3 falls match. I think they’re doing it now because Jordan & Gable are likely going to be on the main roster on July 19 also.

TJR Thoughts: When they did the segment on NXT last week I thought that it would lead to a NXT Takeover Brooklyn match. I’m glad that we won’t have to wait that long although it will suck to know that spoilers will be out there. I don’t think the result of the match will be hard to figure out since Nakamura is on the way up while Balor is likely on his way to the main roster. I think Balor debuting on the main roster on July 19 is what WWE should and will do.

Yes, I mentioned July 19 a lot because it’s arguably the most important date on the WWE calendar this year due to the draft.

Looking long term, Nakamura vs. Joe excites me a lot. I think both guys should be on the main roster, but if they’re going to do it in NXT, the Takeover Brooklyn show is the perfect place for it.
