Tony Khan has poured fuel on the fire ahead of AEW Rampage in Chicago as he teases what he calls “the most anticipated announcement in AEW history.”

AEW Rampage is set for its second episode which the company have subtitled The First Dance, and with rumours running rampant of an imminent arrival in the company, the show has become one of the most hotly anticipated wrestling event in years.

For weeks now, CM Punk has been on the name on every wrestling fan’s lips as it has been reported that he is set to end his seven-year wrestling exile and become All Elite. Punk last appeared in WWE at the 2014 Royal Rumble but after becoming increasingly disillusioned, he walked away from that company.

The expectations for Punk’s AEW arrival grew once again when the promotion announced that The First Dance will take place in the United Center in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois. It was in Chicago that Punk famously won the WWE Championship from John Cena and seemingly walked out of WWE at Money In The Bank 2011 – a time that some fans call the second Summer Of Punk after his original blaze of glory in Ring Of Honor in 2005.

The third Summer of Punk is surely on the horizon as AEW President Tony Khan took to social media to say:

“I’m betting that excitement from the most anticipated announcement in @AEW history at #AEWRampageThe First Dance will build up through All Out on PPV. We’ll make new fans + we’ll welcome dormant wrestling households worldwide back into the fold; a new era in #AEWbegins tomorrow”

The First Dance marks the first of four shows in three weeks for AEW in Chicago as they look to potentially capitalise on Punk’s rabid hometown crowd. The move has already paid dividends with The First Dance selling out in minutes after tickets went on general sale.
