Spoilers for Next Week’s WWE Monday Night Raw (Dec. 23)
Here are the spoilers for the matches and interview segments that will air next Monday on Raw on December 23. This show was taped last night in Des Moines, Iowa after Raw. Read my review of Raw here. Thanks to EWrestling.com and WrestlingInc for the spoilers.
There was a holiday message from NBC’s Jimmy Fallon.
Kevin Owens did a promo that was interrupted by Mojo Rawley due to the in-ring moment they had a few weeks ago.
Kevin Owens defeated Mojo Rawley in a Christmas Street Fight
Owens won with a Stunner and Popup Powerbomb through a table.
Post match, Owens called out Seth Rollins and AOP. That led to Rollins and AOP beating up Owens again.
Bobby Lashley defeated Cedric Alexander
The spoilers say it went 11 minutes, which feels longer than you would think for this match. It was announced that Lashley and Lana’s wedding will take place on the last live Raw of the year (and decade) on December 30.
Drew McIntyre defeated Zack Ryder
The match went only two minutes. McIntyre also beat up Ryder’s tag team partner Curt Hawkins. McIntyre also did a promo where promised that 2020 will belong to him.
Becky Lynch did a promo calling out Asuka. That led to Asuka and Kairi Sane responding to it with Asuka doing a quick promo in English followed by some Japanese trash talk. Asuka used the phrase “Asuka Two Belts” during the promo. Lynch apparently said, “any time, any place” in Japanese. The expectation is that Lynch vs. Asuka will take place at the Royal Rumble, but that’s not official yet.
Ricochet defeated Tony Nese
It was a short match that reportedly went two minutes.
Aleister Black defeated a local competitor
A quick match that went under 30 seconds.
Buddy Murphy defeated a local competitor
This was also a quick match that was under 30 seconds.
It was announced that Black and Murphy will have another match on the December 30th live episode of Raw. That should be great.
Charlotte Flair defeated Chelsea Green
Green is an NXT wrestler that is also engaged to Zack Ryder. It was an easy win for Flair, who won in under five minutes.
The OC (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) defeated Randy Orton and Viking Raiders (Ivar & Erik)
The match went about 12 minutes with Styles pinning Orton with a Phenomenal Forearm. Orton beat Styles in singles action on Monday’s Raw, so Styles got his win back in a tag team match.
Erick Rowan defeated a local competitor
The local competitor distracted Rowan by using a candy cane and tried to look at what was in Rowans’ cage, but Rowan beat him up. It went about one minute with Rowan winning easily as usual.
Rusev did a promo saying he was happy that Bobby Lashley was marrying because there’s no better punishment for Lashley than to marry Lana.
Rusev defeated No Way Jose
It was another short match on this show with Rusev winning in under one minute. Rusev danced with No Way Jose and his conga line after the match.
Rey Mysterio defeated Seth Rollins by Disqualification to keep the United States Title
They wrestled for about eight minutes, which is when AOP went in the ring to attack Mysterio when he was going for a splash attempt.
After the match, AOP and Rollins wanted to put Mysterio through the announce table. However, Samoa Joe was there and he looked ready to fight them. AOP beat up Joe, so it sounds like Joe is going to be a babyface when he returns to the ring hopefully in January. Rollins hit The Stomp on Mysterio on the stage. AOP also put Samoa Joe through the announce table.
TJR Thoughts: It sounds like a basic show without many interesting things happening. That’s to be expected on a taped show that will air two days before Christmas. In past years, they ended Christmas shows with babyfaces standing tall and sending the fans home happy. That didn’t happen here. Also, there are way too many short and uninteresting matches on this show. A total of 11 matches sounds like way too much. It’s going to be difficult to keep the audience interested in some of these matches.
