The vacant WWE Title was on the line in the main event of Money in the Bank 2014 in addition to a MITB contract ladder match and more.

Here is the Daniel Bryan interview recap from the Kickoff show.
Daniel Bryan Interview
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan was in the ring for an interview with Michael Cole. He received a big ovation as well as a loud “Daniel Bryan” chant that seems to have overwhelmed him.
Bryan said he doesn’t know when he’s going to be back. The strength hasn’t come back in his arm and they’re talking about doing another surgery. That’s sad. Bryan said he’d rather be in the ring tonight in a match instead of watching others. He said he’s going to win back the WWE Title when he can.
A fan asked on Twitter who is going to win the WWE Title tonight. Bryan said John Cena, then maybe Randy Orton and then Roman Reigns. Bryan talked about how they didn’t even tell him they were stripping him of the WWE Title. He claimed that what bothered him was that Stephanie McMahon was so smug about it.
Bo Dallas showed up to say that it has to be a pain in the neck for Bryan not to compete tonight. He told Bryan he can still climb the ladder of life and make his way back to the top. “All you have to do is Bolieve.” Bryan said he appreciated Bo’s concern, but feels like he’s acting like a Bo-ner. Yes, he said it. The crowd chanted “Boner” for it. Bryan said “Bo…leave.” Then Bryan’s music played.
Analysis: The “boner” thing was mildly funny and a bit of a surprise, but fits the kind of humor that Vince McMahon likes. The most newsworthy thing was Bryan saying that he’s not sure about his return and that he might need another surgery. That makes me sad.
The Wyatt Family logo appeared and Luke Harper said that the time is up for the Usos. They’re coming. That was the end of the Kickoff Show.

WWE Money in the Bank Main Card
The opening video package was awesome like usual. I liked the “step by step” part with voiceover guy talking in a menacing voice. The video focused on the two ladder matches.
First up are The Usos, who made their entrance first so the tag titles lead us off. Good choice. The set had ladders set up by the entrance similar to how it was on Raw & Smackdown last week.
The announce team of Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler & John Bradshaw Layfield were at ringside as well as the Spanish announce team, which includes Ricardo Rodriguez. They all had Mountain Dew bottles on their tables, so clearly that’s a sponsor.
There was a different theme song for the Wyatt Family here compared to what we heard on Raw. There was the kid singing “he’s got the whole world in his hands” at the start of it, but then it turned into more of a generic rock song.
Tag Team Titles: The Usos vs. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan
Harper hit an impressive dropkick early on. A little later on Jey went up top, Harper distracted him and Rowan shoved Jey into the barricade outside the ring. The heels worked over Jey in their corner with a bunch of quick tags that we see in nearly every tag team match. Rowan missed a leg drop, Jey nearly tagged in Jimmy, but Harper tagged in with a clothesline on Jimmy and then hit a boot to the face of Jey. I had a phone call that caused me to miss a few minutes, but got back to it ten minutes into the match and Harper hit a powerbomb for a two count on Jimmy, so I missed the hot tag.
Harper hit a dive outside the ring to take out Jey. Then Jimmy hit a dive on Rowan, but he was caught. Harper hit a dive outside the ring to take out Jimmy. With Jey out of the ring, the Wyatt Family hit a double Chokeslam like move on Jimmy, but Jey ran into the ring to break the pin. Superkick on Harper sent him outside the ring. Rowan squashed Jey in the corner. Rowan went to the top to the shock of everybody, but Jimmy tripped him up. Jey tagged in and they hit a double superplex on Rowan. That’s a really impressive move. Each Uso brother hit a Superfly Splash consecutively and that was enough for the win. The Usos retain after 14 minutes.
Winners by pinfall: The Usos
Analysis: *** It was a great choice for the opener. The Usos are tremendous as they make their comeback. I loved the double superplex spot especially on a big guy like Rowan. Harper was very impressive like usual. Cool finish with the double Superfly Splash too. I picked the Usos in the preview. I’m glad they retained because they need a long reign to really establish themselves as the top team in the company.
Videos aired that focused on the Money in the Bank contract ladder match.
Dean Ambrose did a promo backstage talking about how Seth Rollins made a big mistake by asking Triple H to put him in the contract ladder match. He ended it by saying this: “Seth, daddy’s going to be mad at you.” The “daddy” is Triple H in this instance.
Analysis: Solid promo by Ambrose. That’s no surprise.
Divas Title: Paige vs. Naomi w/Cameron
They were really aggressive early on. Naomi slammed her on the floor outside the ring. Awesome dive over the top by Naomi, which is a move you almost never see in divas matches. There was a cross body block for two, then they did three pinfall sequences in a row. Naomi applied a submission move, but Paige fought out of it. They went to the top to battle, but then they spilled off the top rope and crashed on the floor. Back in the ring, hard kick by Paige to the chest. It looked like Cameron was smiling as Paige applied a stump puller submission. Naomi hit some leaping clotheslines. Rear View (flying ass) by Naomi earned a two count. Split legged moonsault by Naomi, but Paige got her knees up. Naomi with an inside cradle for two. Paige picked up Naomi and dropped her with a snap DDT for the win after 7 minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Paige
Post match, Cameron checked on Naomi. No sign of a turn yet.
Analysis: ** That was a good match for the time given. That’s about the usual time for divas PPV matches. They were aggressive from the moment the bell rang. I really liked Naomi’s dive over the top and think that should have been made a bigger deal. Paige’s finisher looked really good. I expected her to win.
The PPV panel made up of Renee Young, Booker T, Christian and Alex Riley talked about what’s happened so far.
They aired the Money in the Bank “by the numbers” video again. Second time in an hour although that was the Kickoff show earlier.
Here’s Damien Sandow dressed as Paul Revere doing a promo against Adam Rose and the Rosebuds. He said the halfwits have arrived. He insulted the fans by saying that Boston would always live in the shadow of New York. Rose said Boston’s the place to party.
Adam Rose vs. Damien Sandow (Paul Revere)
Sandow was dumped out of the ring via back body drop before the match. After the bell rang, Rose was in control for a bit until Sandow took control. The announcers keep calling him Revere as he yelled “the elbow is coming” and you could tell JBL was losing interest by talking about other things. Forearm shots by Rose, then punches and his corner splash failed after Sandow hit a clothesline. Full Nelson Slam for two by Sandow. Sandow went for a moonsault off the middle rope, but that missed and Rose capitalized with the Party Foul for the win after four minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Adam Rose
Post match, Rose danced with his Exotic Express friends. The bunny, cheeseburger, hot dog and women danced in the ring with Rose. Fans cared a bit, but not really.
Analysis: * It was an unadvertised match that was done to put over Rose. Poor Sandow. A year ago he won Money in the Bank. Now he’s wrestling in costumes every match. At least Sandow was entertaining as Revere.
Sitting at ringside was Jon Stewart from the Daily Show with his son and also Robert Flores from ESPN.
Prior to the contract ladder match we heard promos from everybody in the match talking to the camera. There were comments from Seth Rollins, Rob Van Dam, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger (actually Zeb Colter spoke). We heard from Ambrose earlier. Time for that match.
Here’s the order of entry for the Money in the Bank contract ladder match as the gold briefcase was hanging above the ring: Seth Rollins, Rob Van Dam, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston and Dean Ambrose. Ziggler got the biggest ovation. Almost no reaction for Kingston. Ambrose got a nice ovation.
Money in the Bank Contract Ladder Match: Seth Rollins vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Jack Swagger vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Dean Ambrose
Ambrose attacked Rollins at the start of the match. Dean’s wrestling in a tank top and jeans again. Kingston with a dropkick on Swagger followed by boom drop on him as Swagger was laying on top of a ladder. Kingston knocked Swagger out of the ring with a ladder shot. He climbed a ladder, Ambrose shoved it, Kingston landed on the top rope and hit a cross body on others outside the ring. Wow! What a move! Kingston is great at doing those innovative spots. Rollins went after Ambrose while everybody was out of the ring, which led to Ambrose hitting a double underhook suplex that sent Rollins into a ladder. Everybody but Rollins was trying to climb up. Ambrose and Swagger were sent out of the ring. Ziggler climbed up with Kingston. Rollins hit both of them with a ladder, but then RVD hit Rollins with a dropkick. Monkey flip by RVD on Rollins and then a jumping side kick on Rollins against the ladder. RVD hit Rolling Thunder on Rollins while he was laying on top of a ladder. RVD with a jumping side kick to Ambrose, then one for Ziggler and a spin kick too. RVD was on fire. Five Star Frog Splash by RVD to Swagger. So one kick to the gut put him down long enough to hit a finisher? That’s a bit of a stretch. RVD climbed up, but Kingston went after him and Swagger popped right up as the other two threw a ladder into him. Swagger jabbed Kingston in the ribs with a ladder two times. Swagger set up the ladder in the corner of the ring on RVD and wanted a superplex, but RVD fought out. Swagger landed hard. RVD looked like he was going to jump, but Rollins went after RVD.
Swagger was near the top of the ladder and he brought down RVD with a huge powerbomb. Ouch. It was higher than the top rope that’s for sure. Ambrose went after Rollins on the tall ladder out of the corner. Huge superplex by Ambrose on Rollins from the top of a ladder. That’s two huge moves in a row. The crowd appreciated it. Swagger sent Ziggler into a ladder that crashed into Ambrose. Then Swagger slammed a ladder onto Kingston followed by a Swagger Bomb that crushed Kingston. There were more climbing attempts, but Swagger and RVD were sent down. Rollins ended up fighting it out with Ambrose at the top of the ladder. Ambrose knocked Rollins down, but Swagger knocked Ambrose down. Ambrose countered a slam into a DDT. Great move right there. Ambrose was favoring his left shoulder. The trainer went in the ring. Ambrose told him to pop the shoulder back in. Trainers and refs took him away. Rollins climbed up, but RVD cut him off. Kingston set up a ladder bridging from the top rope to the side of the ladder. RVD’s leg was caught in the ladder rungs, so he went down. Kingston gave Rollins a back body drop that sent him crashing into the ladder that was bridged from the ropes. Another awesome move.
Ziggler prevented Kingston from grabbing the briefcase and dropped him a DDT. Ziggler nailed Swagger with a neckbreaker. Crowd was cheering for Ziggler, who hit a Fameasser on RVD. Superkick by Ziggler on Swagger. Ziggler finally made a climb, but Swagger grabbed him by the ankle. Ziggler was able to boot him away as the fans cheered while Ziggler looked up at the briefcase. Rollins nailed Ziggler in the leg with a chair followed by a chair shot to the back. Ambrose ran back into the ring as Rollins was about to win. Ambrose destroyed Rollins with several chair shots to the back. There was a huge ovation for him. Ambrose favored his left arm as he climbed up the ladder. Kane’s music started up, which led to Kane running down to the ring. He brought Ambrose down and nailed him with a Chokeslam. Kane hit a Tombstone on Ambrose. Rollins got back to his feet as Kane held the ladder steady and Rollins climbed up to secure the briefcase. The match went 24 minutes.
Winner: Seth Rollins
Post match, the announcers argued over what happened as Cole ripped on Rollins win that was set up by the Authority, who sent Kane to the ring or so we are led to believe.
Analysis: ****1/4 That was an excellent ladder match where all six guys put their body on the line. The ending was a bit of a disappointment because I don’t think they needed to make it that cheap, but they furthered the story that he would always have help thanks to his association with Triple H. The memorable spots included Kingston’s springboard plancha, a powerbomb off the ladder by Swagger on RVD, Ambrose hitting Rollins with a superplex and then Rollins going into a ladder that was bridged of the ropes. I got that prediction wrong because I went with Ambrose. I have no problem with Rollins winning, though. My feeling was that it was a Rollins win was too obvious. I’m a huge fan of the guy and I’m happy for him. Hopefully it leads to something great for him in the very near future.

Following the victory, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon showed up to applaud Rollins like proud parents. They’re not old enough to be his parents, but you get the idea.
(The match was very good and I don’t have much to add to the analysis. It certainly did lead to some great things for Rollins, who had a great 2014 and 2015 before an injury in late 2015. He was my Wrestler of the Year in the Johnny Awards in 2014 and 2015 as well.)
Randy Orton was interviewed by Byron Saxton. Orton said he has the best chance to win tonight. He added that Rollins needed help to win, but that a guy like him doesn’t need help. When Saxton asked him about Roman Reigns, Orton just stared back at him without saying anything.
The announcers talked about WWE Network after mentioning a Vickie Guerrero special that airs this week.
Ryback & Curtis Axel vs. Goldust & Stardust
The mannerisms of Stardust are funny. Give credit to Cody Rhodes for really pulling this character off. Axel’s wrestling in a singlet now just like his buddy Ryback although the colors don’t match. The Rybaxel team worked on Goldust in their corner as Axel hit a dropkick for two. The announcers were bickering again like usual. Lawler said “dust to dust” as Cole laughed in an over the top way. I miss Jim Ross. A lot. Ryback two count, then Goldust got one of his own, but Ryback came back with a Spinebuster. Back elbow by Goldust freed himself, so he tagged in Stardust, who went after Ryback. Clotheslines by Stardust, then a dropkick, kick to the face, headbutt and springboard elbow attack. DDT by Stardust on Ryback. Axel sent Goldust into the barricade. Stardust hit Cross Rhodes on Ryback for two as Axel made the save. Stardust avoided an Axel attack and then rolled up Ryback for the win after 9 minutes.
Winners by pinfall: Goldust & Stardust
Post match, Axel attacked Stardust. Goldust made the save. He picked up Axel, which led to Stardust hitting a snap DDT. Good tag team move. They should have used that to win the match. The brothers celebrated the win.
Analysis: ** It was a basic tag match designed to showcase Stardust, who is a new character even though Cody has been in WWE for many years. The crowd weren’t hot the whole time, but they were into it towards the end. They should have just ended it when Stardust hit the Cross Rhodes because that would have looked better than the rollup finish.
The Battleground PPV takes place on July 20 with Bray Wyatt featured in the commercial.
They devoted some time to Cole reading tweets from Layla and Summer and then they aired videos of the feud. I still don’t care.
There was a backstage interview with Fandango by Byron Saxton. Fandango is the ref of the Layla/Summer match. He was interrupted by Layla and then Summer Rae. The girls bickered with Layla bragging about her body (she seems proud of her breasts) while Summer mentioned she was natural. Fandango looked worried about the match later.
Analysis: The women were acting too over the top, but this whole feud has been ridiculous from the beginning.
Rusev and Lana entered the ring. She looks ravishing in red or in any color, but it’s red on this night. They have changed their entrance so they do promo from inside the ring now. It was the same thing they always say. Big E did a pre-match taped promo talking about standing up for America.
Rusev w/Lana vs. Big E
Rusev stuck up his knee to block a Big E attack while Rusev was on the apron. That was a nice counter by Rusev. Release German suplex by Rusev. Chinlock by Rusev about two minutes into this. Big E made a comeback with a belly to belly suplex. Rusev drove his knees into the chest of Big E repeatedly. One armed slam by Big E out of the corner for two. Big E with a shoulder tackle followed by a clothesline. Overhead belly to belly suplex by Big E followed by the Spear that sent both Rusev and Big E out of the ring. That’s a great spot every time he does it. Back in the ring, Big E wanted to hit the Big Ending, but Rusev was able to avoid it. Hard kick to the face by Russia. Lana told him to crush so he applied the Accolade. Big E was trying to fight it as Lana stood on the apron. Rusev locked in the Accolade even tighter and that was enough for the win after eight minutes.
Winner by submission: Rusev
Analysis: ** That was an impressive power match by two recent NXT guys that showed why they can be stars in the future. They’re both really strong guys that are athletic too. This was the most selling Rusev has done in a singles match on the main roster. I got Rusev right as I’m sure most people did, so I’m 4-1 in picks so far.
The MITB panel spoke about things that have happened so far and the win by Rollins.
There was a replay of Daniel Bryan on the Kickoff Show when he said Bo Dallas was acting like a “Bo-ner” and said “Bo…leave.”
Backstage, Nikki Bella was talking to Brie. Stephanie McMahon walked up wondering what she was doing here. Nikki said she brought Brie as her guest. Stephanie said that only authorized personnel were allowed backstage, not former employees by Brie. That led to Brie saying that she was showing Nikki her new favorite video, which was from Raw when Vickie Guerrero shoved Stephanie into a pool of mud. This video took over our screen, so apparently Brie has a powerful phone. Stephanie called for security. They escorted Brie from the arena. Stephanie wasn’t happy with Nikki about it.
Analysis: Congrats to Brie Bella for getting a lot of screen time even though she “quit” WWE. That’s why WWE doesn’t know how to do firing or quitting angles right because every time they do the people end up on TV anyway.
Summer Rae vs. Layla (Special Ref: Fandango)
Layla sent Summer out of the ring, then danced in front of Fandango and Summer knocked her down. Fandango smiled as he checked out Summer’s long legs. Layla kicked Summer and got a nearfall. Fandango started shaking his hips as Layla applied a leg lock. I think the fans were chanting “CM Punk” although it didn’t last long or WWE muted them. It’s hard to tell sometimes. Summer slammed Layla head first. There was a DDT by Summer that didn’t look great as Cole mockingly said Jon Stewart will highlight this on Daily Show. When they make the jokes like that it usually means it’s a bad match. Layla finished her off with a standing side kick to the face. That was enough for the win after four minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Layla
Post match, Layla kissed Fandango after the match. Summer looked like she was crying in the ring.
Analysis: DUD It was bad. The crowd didn’t care too much. I don’t blame them. Announcers were making jokes about the match, which is their way of saying it’s not good. It should be noted that Layla entered to the Fandango song and then after the match the “you’re not enough for me” song played. Then the Fandango song played again. The audio guy had a rough time. I got that pick wrong since I picked Summer to win.
They showed Robert Flores from ESPN at ringside next to Jon Stewart. They were behind the announce table.
The video package aired for the WWE Title ladder match, which is up next.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon made their way down to ringside. They sat in chairs by the announce table.
Here’s the order of entry for the WWE Title match: Sheamus, Bray Wyatt (mostly cheers even though he’s a heel), Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro (with Paul Heyman), John Cena, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns and Kane. It’s weird that Kane would be announced last, but it really doesn’t matter. Usually a babyface is the last one to come out.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match: John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus vs. Bray Wyatt vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Cesaro (w/Paul Heyman) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Kane
It’s a tough match to write about because there are eight guys involved and so many ladders around the ringside area. Sheamus & Reigns had ladders in their hands as they sandwiched Kane in between them. Several guys climbed up, but Kane dominated everybody in the ring with his usual power moves. Kane hit a weak Chokeslam on Del Rio and then a better one on Cena. The crowd did the dueling “Let’s Go Cena/Cena Sucks” chant. Kane held the ladder to help Orton climb up, but Reigns knocked down Orton. One armed slam by Wyatt on Reigns and then Cena hit the spinning suplex on Wyatt. Cesaro nailed Cena with a huge uppercut shot. Cesaro tried to climb up, but Sheamus met him. Wyatt did his crab walk. He shoved the ladder away as Sheamus & Cesaro were holding onto the title. Sheamus dropped. Cesaro was still hanging, but he couldn’t unclip it so he dropped. Running splash by Wyatt. A replay showed that Orton was cut open on the head after a ladder hit him. Orton pulled out a ladder from under the ring. They bridged the ladder from the apron to the Spanish announce table. Orton tipped up Sheamus so his back hit the bridge. Orton’s cut was on top of his head. Orton hit a DDT on Sheamus on the floor.
Orton tossed a smaller ladder outside the ring. I could hear him say “move” to the camera guy. That’s so thoughtful of him. Orton set up a giant ladder that nearly touched the bottom of the titles. Four others climbed up the ladder. It ended up being seven guys – everybody except Sheamus. Kane cleaned house. He threw Cesaro and Del Rio out of the ring. Sheamus came back with his signature moves on different guys in succession. Sheamus hit a Brogue Kick on Cena. He took so long to set up a ladder that Kane ended up preventing Sheamus from climbing. Cesaro set up a bridge from the top turnbuckle to one of the rungs of the ladder. He brawled with Sheamus on top of the ladder. Del Rio jabbed Reigns in the ring with a ladder. Cena took Del Rio out of the ring. Reigns lifted up the ladder from the bottom, but it didn’t tip over because of the ladder in the side. Cena flipped it back the other way. Sheamus & Cesaro were still on the ladder. Cena was suplexed into the side of a ladder by Wyatt. Kane cleaned house again although he had help from Orton as the two worked together again. Orton sent Sheamus out of the ring. Reigns nailed Kane with a Spear out of nowhere. Orton knocked down Reigns.
Reigns fought out of the RKO and hit a Superman Punch on Orton. Sheamus went to the top, so Orton nailed him with a Superman Punch. Reigns running dropkick on Del Rio on the apron and then one for Wyatt on the announce table. Spear by Reigns on Cesaro. That was a very impressive run for Reigns. Cena faced off with him in the ring for a big showdown. Reigns ended up winning that battle. He climbed up, but Orton nailed a backbreaker to knock Reigns down. Wyatt stopped an Orton climb by hitting Sister Abigail on him. Del Rio hit a leaping enziguiri on Wyatt followed a standing sidekick. Del Rio climbed up, but Sheamus shoved the ladder over. Sheamus nailed ADR with a Brogue Kick. Sheamus climbed up the giant ladder in the ring. Cesaro stopped him by hitting an uppercut. Neutralizer by Cesaro on Sheamus. With Cesaro near the top of the ladder, Orton yanked him off and hit a RKO off the ladder. Great move! Wow! Reigns climbed up to stop Orton as Orton’s head bled even more. Reigns was about three steps up the ladder, so Kane gave him a Chokeslam. Kane held the ladder so Orton could climb up. Cena gave Kane the Attitude Adjustment. Cena gave Orton the Attitude Adjustment on top of Kane. Cena climbed up and grabbed the WWE & World Title to win the match after 27 minutes.
Winner: John Cena
Analysis: ***1/4 The ending was good as a way to give Cena a decisive win. Cena haters are going to be angry about it, but all indications are that Cena’s going to face Lesnar at SummerSlam. That’s why he won here. It was a necessary step to get to a big match that they want to do at a major show. Give a lot of credit to Randy Orton for busting his ass after getting his head cut open by a ladder. They kept pushing the idea that Kane was going to help Orton win and it looked like it a few different times during the match, but in the end it was “Super” Cena that emerged the winner. I’m not sure why they kept having Sheamus & Cesaro get so close to winning. It seems like they were each up there two or three times. Wyatt wasn’t booked that strong. Del Rio was booked the worse by far, but that’s not a surprise. This match wasn’t as good as the first ladder match due to the lack of high risk spots. It was given a lot of time and I do appreciate the effort. If you’re mad that guys didn’t do crazy bumps, lighten up. Daniel Bryan’s out after major neck surgery. Guys aren’t going to crazy bumping off ladders in a main event match. Common sense has to take over.
John Cena celebrated the win as the new WWE Champion with the two world titles in his hands.
This event had a runtime of 2:50:12 on WWE Network.
Analysis: The announcers said Cena is the greatest WWE Champion ever as they mentioned it was his 15th WWE/World Title. That probably pisses people off, but what do you expect? He has one less than Flair (at least what is recognized for Flair), so WWE is going to put their “face of WWE” over as the best champion ever. It shouldn’t surprise you especially going into SummerSlam. I got that prediction right, so I ended the night 5-2 on the advertised matches.

Final Thoughts
I’m giving it a 7 out of 10.
The first ladder match was one of the best matches of the year. The tag title match and main event were both pretty good too. When you can have three matches of that quality on the same show then it’s a thumbs up to me.
The stars of the show were Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. That feud is great. I’m really looking forward to their big singles match whether it’s at Battleground or SummerSlam. The fans are really into it too. The Ambrose shoulder story and the finish of that match may have upset people because it wasn’t a clean ending, but it was done to build up future matches for the next couple of months.
Money in the Bank was a success. The midcard could have been better, but that’s something that WWE has to keep working on. If they had one or two midcard matches that were better and went 10-15 minutes then we’d be talking about a 9 out of 10 type of show. Instead, there was a bit too much filler for my liking.
