WWE NXT Heatwave 2025 Preview tjrwrestling

It’s WWE NXT Heatwave featuring Oba Femi against Je’Von Evans, Jordynne Grace facing Blake Monroe, and a whole lot more.

There are six matches on this show, and three of them are women’s matches, plus there’s a mixed tag team match, so that means that women are in more matches than men. What I don’t like is that there are two women’s triple threat matches on the show. It feels too repetitive.

I think the card is okay, but it’s not particularly strong. The Oba Femi-Je’Von Evans match was only set up this past Tuesday. There aren’t any stipulation matches on the card, so that hurts a bit because it’s just regular matches all show long.

You can watch NXT Heatwave on Sunday, August 24th, streaming live at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix for many of us internationally, including me in Canada. Let’s get to it.

Ethan Page & Chelsea Green vs. Tavion Heights & Tyra Mae Steele

They could have picked one of the many women in NXT to be in this match in Steele’s NXT PLE debut, but they picked the great Chelsea Green because WWE knows that she’s so talented and will make everybody around her better. Green is also Canadian like Page, so that’s why she’s in this spot. They are doing the classic story where the Canadians are egotistical while the Americans are Olympians who are hardworking and noble people. There’s nothing wrong with that.

I think this should be a win for the Heights/Steele team, which would lead to Heights becoming a title contender for Page’s NXT North American Title. They could also have Steele beat Green to win the match just to make Steele look impressive in her first PLE match. I think Steele will be more than ready and do a good job in this match. I’d be surprised if Page and Green were to win.

Winners: Tavion Heights & Tyra Mae Steele

TNA Knockouts Championship: Jacy Jayne (c) vs. Ash By Elegance vs. Masha Slamovich

I thought that putting the TNA Knockouts Title on Jacy Jayne in the first place was a strange decision, and I didn’t expect her to have a long title reign. In this match, It’s the former champion Slamovich possibly getting her title back or Ash By Elegance (formerly Dana Brooke in WWE) winning the Knockouts Title for the first time.

When they had that six-woman tag team match on NXT this week, Jayne pinned Ash in the match, which cemented my pick for this match. I’m going with Ash getting the win. I think that either Ash’s Elegance Brand group helps her win or Jayne’s Fatal Influence accidentally costs Jayne the match. I think that would fit Ash as a character since she’s an egotistical heel, but she’s not booked like a strong heel. I also think it’s better for TNA to have a wrestler in that company holding the Knockouts Title, so I hope Ash wins it.

Winner AND NEW TNA Knockouts Champion: Ash By Elegance

NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Jaida Parker vs. Kelani Jordan vs. Lola Vice

The winner of this match gets a shot at the NXT Women’s Title held by Jacy Jayne. All three women are babyfaces, so they make sense as potential opponents for the heel champion. Of the three, I like Parker the most, although I do think they all have appeal as babyface challengers. I also think any of them could beat Jayne, who isn’t a strong champion, although I think it’s more likely that Jordynne Grace or Blake Monroe is the next champion.

Since it’s a triple threat match, with no countouts or disqualifications, the use of weapons could make it stand out, especially since there are no stipulation matches on the card. I wouldn’t mind seeing them get creative in the match. For a winner, I’ll go with Parker, but it’s a tough match to predict.

Winner: Jaida Parker

NXT Tag Team Championships: Hank & Tank vs. Two Members Of Darkstate

This feels like a title change. We don’t know who will be on the Darkstate team, but if it were up to me, I’d go with Dion Lennox and Saquon Shugars because they are the best in-ring performers on the team. Hank & Tank winning the titles was cool a few months ago, but their title reign has been boring, with no memorable moments. It was a big deal when they won because they beat the great Fraxiom team. Since then? It’s just not that interesting.

My guess is that Darkstate will win because the two guys outside of the ring are going to get some cheap shots in, and that’s going to allow the legal Darkstate guys to get the win.

Winners AND NEW NXT Tag Team Champions: Darkstate

Jordynne Grace vs. Blake Monroe

This match has the best story going into it since Blake turned on Jordynne last month, and Jordynne is seeking revenge. It’s a simple story that’s easy to tell. During their promos, Blake has insulted Grace for physically looking ugly in the past, while Grace thinks Blake is ugly as a person. I’m not saying it’s the most riveting story in pro wrestling history, but at least it’s a story.

It’s a tough match to predict, as I think either woman would benefit from securing a victory. My lean is to go with Grace winning because Blake is the one who turned on Grace, but then I think about how this is Blake’s first singles match on a PLE, and I believe that WWE wants her to look like a major star, so she needs to win this match. It should be back and forth most of the way, but I like Blake to find a way to get the win, and it may be cheap, too.

Winner: Blake Monroe

NXT Championship: Oba Femi vs. Je’Von Evans

At NXT Stand & Deliver during WrestleMania 41 weekend, it was Femi against Evans and Trick Williams in a great triple threat match. Four months later, we’re here with Evans in a singles match against Femi. If it were up to me, Evans would be the one to take the title from Femi, but I’d rather see it happen when it’s built up in a better way. In this instance, Evans is just getting the title shot after winning a match a few days ago. There really isn’t much of a story here.

I think this would be better as a story if Femi were more of a heel instead of being a babyface. If Femi realizes he can’t put Evans away and does something heelish to cheat and win, it would help the story. Fans would want to see Evans get another shot at Femi and see if he can win. If Femi wins clean then what? I think it needs to be a controversial ending of some kind to set up a rematch down the road. I’m not sure when Evans will win, but maybe it’s Halloween Havoc in October or something like that. For this match, I’m going to with Femi barely finding a way to retain and it should be an excellent match.

Winner: Oba Femi

BONUS TOPICS FOR WWE NXT HEATWAVE

The Match I’m Looking Forward To The Most

Oba Femi vs. Je’Von Evans. I think it will be the best match.

The Match I Care About The Least

Hank & Tank vs. Darkstate. The tag team division is not hot right now.

Longest Match

Oba Femi vs. Je’Von Evans, and I think it’s going about 20 minutes.

Shortest Match

Hank & Tank vs. Darkstate for about 11 minutes.

Excitement Level on a Scale of 1-10 (1 being low, 10 being high)

I’m going with a 7 out of 10, and I nearly went down to 6.75, but I think there will be good matches, especially the Femi-Evans match, so that will help a lot. I feel like this show resembles the Great American Bash from last month, and while it was okay, it lacked something special. I hope it exceeds my expectations.

I’ll be back with a review of the WWE NXT Heatwave on TJRWrestling.net on Sunday most likely, but it may be Monday morning. You can also tweet me on X/Twitter at @johnreport as well.
