The John Report: WWE SmackDown 07/25/25 Review
This is WWE SmackDown featuring Randy Orton and Jelly Roll confronting Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul, plus Wyatt Sicks against Andrade & Rey Fenix, and more.
It has been a sad week in terms of celebrity deaths. Hulk Hogan passed away on Thursday at the age of 71. I know Hulk was a controversial figure in many ways, and some people didn’t like the man, but it’s impossible to deny his legacy as a pro wrestler. I wrote this article about Hulk Hogan, touching on significant moments from his wrestling career and the controversies that have marked his life. Hulk is a two-time WWE Hall of Famer and one of the most famous pro wrestlers ever, so I expect a Hogan tribute during SmackDown tonight and Raw on Monday. Hulk wasn’t my favorite wrestler, but I know he influenced many people and was beloved by millions. Rest in Peace, Hulkster.
The legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne also died this week at the age of 76. I’ve been listening to Ozzy songs all week and reflecting on his incredible career. He was also part of the WWE family and is a celebrity inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. He lived a hard life, and I hope he’s at peace now. Rest in Peace, Ozzy.
As for present-day WWE, SummerSlam is taking place on August 2 & 3 in New Jersey, which means it’s just eight days away from the two-night event. Going into SmackDown tonight, there are 11 official matches set for the show, and the company announced which matches will be on which night. There may be a few more matches added as well.
From the Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, this is SmackDown for episode #1353. Follow me on Twitter/X @johnreport. Let’s get to it.

WWE Pays Tribute To Hulk Hogan
A graphic was shown In Memory of Hulk Hogan 1953-2025. The stage was full of WWE personnel and legends.
The WWE CCO, Triple H, said that yesterday, we lost a man who was a global icon. Triple H said he grew up watching him and had the pleasure of sharing the ring with him. Triple H talked about how Hulk Hogan inspired millions of people around the world. Hunter said we wouldn’t be standing here right now if it was not for him. Triple H called for a 10-bell salute for Terry Bollea, aka the “Immortal” Hulk Hogan. The ring bell rang ten times as they showed wrestlers and legends on the stage like Hogan’s best friend Jimmy Hart, who was in the front. The fans cheered after the 10-bell salute.

A video package aired honoring Hulk Hogan, showcasing many of his career highlights. It featured clips of Hogan talking about how much he loved the business, there’s nothing like it, and it’s the most exhilarating experience that you’ll ever have. Triple H narrated a video talking about how Hulk Hogan defined sports entertainment, and he is sports entertainment. They covered his life story and how he fell in love with pro wrestling. They covered some of his big rivalries in WWE with Andre the Giant, Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, and Ultimate Warrior. It also covered his WCW run and the heel turn that led to the NWO. They also featured his WWE comeback in 2002 and how the fans welcomed him back with open arms. They also showed his 2005 WWE Hall of Fame induction and his later appearances. It was a long video that paid a fitting tribute to the Hulkster. It concluded by emphasizing that Hulkamania will live forever.
After the video, the WWE personnel and legends on the stage cheered. The fans chanted “Hogan” leading into a break.
Analysis: I thought it was a good tribute to Hulk Hogan. As I’ve mentioned, I wasn’t the biggest Hogan fan, but I respected what he did in the pro wrestling world and how he made pro wrestling bigger. He was the right guy at the right time. Do I have issues with him as a person, some of the things he said, and his beliefs? Yes, I certainly did. But from a performance standpoint, I did respect him for what he did and the way he beat up his body to entertain us.

The commentary team of Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett welcomed us to the show. Joe Tess discussed Hogan’s impact in the sports world, mentioning several sports legends. Wade said we wouldn’t be here without somebody like Hulk, so Hulkamania will live forever. Mark Nash is the ring announcer.

Logan Paul Hosts Impaulsive TV with Jelly Roll, Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre
Logan Paul made his entrance to boos. He was hosting his Impaulsive talk show in the ring. Paul said it was good to be home in Cleveland, so the fans booed. Paul said they were chanting “Thank You, Logan,” and that drew more boos. Paul said that this city raised him, but it didn’t make him because he made this city. Paul told the fans they have nothing in common with him. Paul said that he made it out while you didn’t. Paul said tonight is about the community because he’s giving Cleveland an opportunity to see Impaulsive TV live. Paul insulted Jelly Roll while making some fat jokes and hurtful comments.
Jelly Roll interrupted and the fans popped big for the tattooed big man. Jelly said that the only thing Logan inspired is little asshole kids to be assholes like him. Jelly didn’t like Logan for insulting them as if Cleveland likes Paul. Logan told Jelly to show some respect. Logan told Jelly he’s getting in the ring with two of WWE’s finest – Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre. Logan said he gets to tag in Drew while Randy Orton gets to tag in…Jelly. Logan asked Jelly who does he think he is? Jelly said that he’s going to put him in a body bag and ship him back to Westlake.
Jelly said that Logan has never had a struggle in his life. Jelly said that Logan has been a silver-spoon kid his whole life. Jelly talked about how he’s getting in this ring for the kids who got picked on and he’s getting in this ring to bring light to this ring. Jelly said that he’s here because he has been a WWE fan his entire life. Jelly said that WWE represented him and every single one of us. Paul trashed Jelly for being a redneck. Jelly said that he knows Paul is soft as Charmin, and Jelly knows Logan is just a punk ass bitch.
Drew McIntyre showed up in the ring and stood behind Paul, so the fans chanted “Randy” for Orton. Jelly told them they made a mistake if they think Jelly came here alone. Jelly sang the start of Orton’s song and Randy Orton got a huge ovation. Orton was wearing an “RKO Everybody” shirt.

Randy Orton joined the others in the ring, and he was about to speak, but instead, he punched Drew out of the ring. Drew raked Orton’s eyes. Jelly punched Paul a few times, but Drew went after Jelly and hit him in the back. Paul worked over Jelly with some forearms to the head. They looked like gentle forearms. Orton pulled Drew out of the ring and Orton threw Drew into the barricade. Jelly got back up with jabs and an elbow on Paul. Jelly hit a shoulder tackle on Paul. Paul kicked Jelly. Paul charged, but Jelly caught him and hit a Bossman Slam to plant Logan on the mat. Drew and Logan retreated while Orton and Jelly stood tall in the ring.
Analysis: I thought it was a good segment. Jelly Roll’s promo was strong in response to Logan Paul, who knows how to get out. It was the right format to have Paul start it and for Jelly to put him in place by trashing him. A big reason why I don’t mind Jelly Roll in this spot is because he is putting in the work and showing that he belongs. A move like the Bossman Slam (or Black Hole Slam) works perfectly for a bigger guy like Jelly Roll. I’m leaning towards Randy and Jelly winning at SummerSlam, but I could change my mind on that.
LET'S GO, @JellyRoll615!!!@LoganPaul and @DMcIntyreWWE were NOT expecting that 😬 pic.twitter.com/cpaMECfob6

A video aired about Andrade and Rey Fenix talking about how they know eachother well. Fenix said that they are on a different level as a tag team. Fenix said it’s only a matter of time until that gold is around their waist. Andrade said that they are the standard, and Fenix said they are money.
Alexa Bliss made her entrance, joined by Charlotte Flair.
(Commercial)

Roxanne Perez (w/Raquel Rodriguez) vs. Alexa Bliss (w/Charlotte Flair)
There’s a new theme song for Roxanne Perez. I liked her previous song, but they always change songs. It’s 8:35 p.m. for the first match of the night. Bliss got some rollups for two counts. Perez did a hair pull. Bliss got another rollup for two. Perez slapped Bliss in the face. Bliss did an STO trip and Perez bailed to the floor. Bliss did a senton splash onto Perez on the floor. Flair got in Raquel’s face on the floor. They went to a break for some fans as the action continued. Raquel tried a trip, so Perez hit Bliss in the back to knock her down. Perez hit a side Russian legsweep for a two count. Perez choked Bliss across the ropes. Bliss hit a jawbreaker, but Perez came back with a clothesline. Flair had pompoms since she’s a cheerleader for her partner. Perez stepped on Alexa’s back repeatedly to stomp her into the mat.
Bliss got back into it with a back elbow to the head and a kick to the body. Bliss knocked Perez down with shoulder tackles, a knee to the face and a dropkick. Bliss did her head stomping routine by the ropes. Bliss hit a flipping neckbreaker. Perez gouged the eyes to avoid a move and Raquel grabbed Bliss by the ropes. Perez hit a moonsault on Bliss for two. Flair tossed Raquel over the barricade. Bliss punched Perez and hit a DDT. Bliss went up top while Raquel kicked Flair down on the floor. Bliss was right there, so Bliss jumped onto Raquel on the floor with a Twisted Bliss attack to knock Raquel down. Perez did a ROLLUP OF DEATH~! on Bliss, sat on top and held onto the ropes for the pinfall win. Bliss was bleeding from the nose or mouth. It went about 8 minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Roxanne Perez
Analysis: **3/4 A cheap win for Perez due to the chaos at ringside and the rope grab during the pin attempt. It was basic stuff with Perez in control for it early on, Bliss made a comeback, and it was Perez finding a way to win.

Jade Cargill was interviewed by Cathy Kelley backstage. Jade said she’d show everybody why she’s a natural-born champion.
Chelsea Green walked in for an interview, saying she should have been wrestling Tiffany Stratton at SummerSlam, not crown-stealing Cargill. Jade walked up behind Green, who kept on trashing Jade and Jade punched Green in the jaw. Jade picked up Green on her shoulders, and a referee went to the ring as the women entered the ringside area. Jade tossed Green in the ring.
Analysis: There’s an easy way to set up a match and both women were in their wrestling gear. Of course.

Jade Cargill vs. Chelsea Green
The bell rang and Jade hit a pump kick to knock Green out of the ring. Alba Fyre and Piper Niven showed up at ringside to check on Green. The show took a break so I’ll take a break too.
There was some offense by Green during the break, but Jade fired up with forearm smashes, along with a fallaway slam. Jade hit two running splashes against the turnbuckle. Jade hit a spinebuster. Fyre distracted Jade, so Green hit a Zig Zag for a two count. Jade overpowered Green and hit a Jaded slam for the pinfall win after five minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Jade Cargill
Analysis: *3/4 Easy win for Jade. That happens to Green quite a bit, even though she’s a former Women’s US Champion. Since she’s so hateable as a heel, they feed her to babyfaces so that they can beat Green. Obviously, Jade was going to win since she’s getting a Women’s Title match at SummerSlam.
After the match, Alba Fyre superkicked Jade and Piper Niven joined the attack on Jade. Tiffany Stratton made the save with punches on Fyre. Tiffany and Jade dropkicked Niven out of the ring. Jade picked up the WWE Women’s Title and posed with it. Stratton said no and took her title back.
Analysis: There’s not much of a story to the Tiffany-Jade match at SummerSlam other than they are two babyfaces who will be matching up with the title on the line. I think Jade will win.

Alexa Bliss was shown backstage checking on her bloody nose. Charlotte Flair said that she’s sorry about her nose and said that this can’t happen at SummerSlam. Bliss thanked Flair for checking on her. Flair said they are partners. Bliss thought she would say friends. Flair said that after they became champions at SummerSlam, she’ll think about it.
Cody Rhodes was shown walking backstage for a promo up next.
(Commercial)
A video aired about Hulk Hogan showing when he won the WWE Title for the first time in 1984. Hogan beat The Iron Sheik at MSG for Hogan’s first WWE Title win.
There was a graphic shown that said Hogan held the WWE Title 6 times, the WCW World Title 6 times and he was a 2-time WWE Hall of Famer.

Let’s Hear from Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes made his entrance wearing an American Nightmare tracksuit rather than the usual suit that he wears. The fans cheered and sang Cody’s song on his way to the ring. They showed a replay of last week when Cody beat up John Cena during a contract signing and informed Cena that their SummerSlam match will be a Street Fight.
Cody said that yesterday, WWE and pro wrestling lost one of its giants, Hulk Hogan. Cody said he knows feelings about it are complicated. Cody said what’s not complicated is that his contributions to WWE and pro wrestling as a whole are indisputable. Cody said that, as somebody who can say he’s a WWE superstar, Hulk was the original, so Cody said thank you to Hulk Hogan.
Cody mentioned that there are Street Fights and then there is what is going to happen at SummerSlam. Cody said we’re not talking about virtue or victory, we are talking about violence. Cody said that sometimes the right thing doesn’t look like the right thing. Cody said that he doesn’t want to wrestle “this” John Cena. Cody said he didn’t want to fight a guy who didn’t want this match in the first place because he’s counting the days he’s out the door. Cody discussed his desire to fight the real John Cena. Cody said he needs to know he can go through the very best. Cody said that this isn’t about nostalgia or headlines, it’s about somebody who redefined this business. Cody wanted Cena to walk out to SummerSlam like it’s his first one, not last one. Cody said he wanted Cena to play to the camera, run to the ring and bring the hustle, loyalty and respect because they can beat it out of eachother. The fans sang “Cody, Cody Rhodes” for him so Cody posed for them on the apron. Cody said that the reason he wants the fight against the real John Cena is that he needs to know. Cody said that he needs to know that it’s not fantasy and it’s not legacy. Cody said he needs to know that it’s real and he’ll see Cena next week.
Analysis: A strong promo from Cody Rhodes as usual. He made the point that he doesn’t want just any John Cena, but the best of John Cena, so Cody can prove he’s the better man. I like that idea.

There was a video showing highlights of last week’s SmackDown when Solo Sikoa tried to frame Jacob Fatu for a car accident. Fatu and Jimmy Uso beat up the MFTs. The SummerSlam match was made: Solo Sikoa defends the US Title against Jacob Fatu at SummerSlam.
Jacob Fatu was backstage saying he loved Solo Sikoa, but Solo made it like this. Fatu said he’s never going back to jail. Fatu said that last week, he found out he’ll be locked down in a cage with Solo. Fatu said that at the end of the day, he’s going to dogwalk his ass. The Miz walked in saying that six weeks ago, Fatu took him out and it gave Miz time to think about who he is. Miz said he’s no victim, he’s the main character. Miz told Solo he got them a match right now. Miz said Cleveland is his hometown because he’s The Miz and he’s awesome. Miz slapped Solo in the face, and left.
Analysis: It was another easy way to set up a match on this show. There are a lot of those this week.
The Miz made his entrance for singles action.
(Commercial)
Aleister Black was featured in a video talking about his issues with Damian Priest. Black said that people think they’re cut from the same cloth and Priest said that he is nothing like him. Black said he will tear down the walls that Priest built. Priest said next week, he’s not hiding who he is. Priest said he’s not coming to play peacemaker because he’s bringing these hands, and he’ll punish Black.
Next week on SmackDown: Damian Priest vs. Aleister Black.
Analysis: That’s a feud that has been built up well. I thought that could be a SummerSlam match, but we’re getting it on SmackDown next week instead. That’s cool.

Jacob Fatu vs. The Miz
Fatu hit a running forearm to knock Miz down. Fatu went for a running hip attack, Miz avoided it and Fatu hit the turnbuckle. Fatu came back with a clothesline. Fatu wanted to do more, but the US Champion Solo Sikoa made his entrance, joined by the MFT’s Tonga Loa, JC Mateo, and Tala Tonga. Miz hit a chop block on Fatu. Miz sent Fatu shoulder-first into the ring post. They went to break for some fans as the action continued. Miz kicked Fatu to knock him down on the floor. Miz sent Fatu into the barricade. Miz hit a running kick to knock Fatu down. Fatu tried a Samoan Drop, but Miz hit some elbows to break free. Fatu caught a leaping Miz and hit a spinning sidewalk slam. Fatu went up top and jumped off with the Swanton Bomb, but Miz got the knees up and Miz hit a DDT for two. Miz worked over Fatu with punches and some weak kicks to the chest. Miz charged right into a superkick from Fatu. Both guys were down.
Fatu worked over Miz with punches. Miz kicked Fatu in the chest, but Fatu hit a clothesline and senton splash. Fatu worked over Miz with ten headbutts. Fatu hit a running hip attack on Miz against the turnbuckle. The MFTs pulled Miz out of the ring, so Fatu hit a suicide dive on Miz, Mateo and Loa. Fatu sent Tala into the ring post and Fatu hit a superkick on Solo. Fatu hit a Popup Samoan Drop for the pinfall win after 8 minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Jacob Fatu
Analysis: *** A good match with The Miz doing a nice job as the crafty veteran, but he had no chance to win here. Fatu usually doesn’t win with a Popup Samoan Drop, although I don’t mind it too much as a finisher because it looks like an impressive move.
The MFTs attacked Jacob Fatu after the match, so Jimmy Uso made the save. Jimmy threw a chair at JC and a superkick for Loa. Jimmy hit Tala in the ribs with a chair and Jimmy hit Tala with a chair to the back. Tala turned around and hit Jimmy with a boot to the face. The four MFTs took control, but Fatu kicked Solo and elbowed Tala to break free. Fatu hit multiple superkicks and a hip attack. Fatu put a chair around Solo’s head against the turnbuckle, but Tala was back in and clotheslined Fatu, who did a flip bump. Tala helped Solo back up. Tala hit a huge Chokeslam on Fatu. Solo picked up Fatu and hit him with a Samoan Spike to the throat. Solo said next week he’s beating Fatu’s ass. The fans chanted “F**k you Solo” and the swear word was getting muted.
Analysis: It was a five minute post match attack with no referees, officials, or security to try to break it up. That’s one of those things I point out that all wrestling companies do because it’s very inconsistent. There are some instances where fights get broken up easily, but in this case, nobody tried to stop it. Anyway, Faut got the advantage last week, so it makes sense for Solo’s group to dominate here. Tala Tonga looked impressive by taking out Fatu at the end of it.

The Street Profits were backstage with B-Fab for an interview with Cathy Kelley. They said they don’t care who wins. Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa and Candice LeRae interrupted. They argued with the Profits. LeRae said that at least they have a plan and told The Profits and B-Fab to stay out of the way.
A clip aired from WWE Unreal showing John Cena talking about how he wished he could continue to compete longer. Triple H talked about Cena as one of the greatest performers in the business. Triple H said that reality drives what they do. Cena said he wants to entertain, leave everybody entertained and get out of it with his health. WWE Unreal debuts on Netflix on Tuesday.

There was a “Remembering Hulk Hogan” video showing when Hulk Hogan beat Andre The Giant at WrestleMania 3. It was one of the most memorable matches ever. They showed more Hogan stats saying he main evented WrestleMania 8 times and had 16 WrestleMania appearances.
Zelina Vega approached the Women’s US Champion Giulia, who was joined by Kiana James. James said that she represented Giulia. Vega called James a “Clipboard Karen.” Vega wanted a match with Giulia. James said they have already asked for the match for next week. James said that when Giulia beats Vega again next week, Vega will be a footnote in her portfolio. Vega warned Giulia, who left with James.
Analysis: Welcome back officially to Kiana James, who was in the background last week with Giulia. I like seeing James with Gulia as a duo. James has been out for over a year with a knee injury.
Kiana James is back on TV as Giulia’s official representation.#SmackDown

It was main event time with the team of Andrade and Rey Fenix up first.
(Commercial)

WWE Tag Team Championships: The Wyatt Sicks – Joe Gacy & Dexter Lumis vs. Andrade & Rey Fenix
Andrade and Fenix hit some double team offense. They hit a double team dropkick on Gacy. Andrade hit Three Amigos suplexes on Gacy. Lumis pushed Fenix off the top rope. Gacy hit an upside-down clothesline on Andrade. Lumis dove onto Fenix on the floor. They went to a break for some fans. The action continued during the break with Lumis working over Fenix.
The match came back with Lumis knocking Fenix down, and Fenix was back up with a superkick. Andrade got the tag and hit a clothesline, along with a leg whip takedown. Andrade hit a running forearm on Lumis. Andrade hit double knees on Gacy against the turnbuckle for a two count. Lumis was back in with a lariat and a senton splash. Fenix went for a rope swing, but Gacy dropkicked him to the floor. Lumis hit a body slam on Andrade. Andrade blocked a Powerbomb by getting the knees up. Andrade got a rollup on Gacy for two. Andrade hit a spinning elbow on Gacy. Fenix jumped over the top onto Lumis on the floor. Andrade hit The Message on Gacy for two because Nikki Cross pulled the referee out of the ring. The fans booed that DQ finish after about 8 minutes.
Winners by disqualification: Andrade & Rey Fenix
Analysis: **3/4 They were on their way to something pretty good when Nikki Cross showed up for the DQ. It keeps the titles on Wyatt Sicks while Andrade and Fenix had an impressive showing again.
After the match, Erick Rowan attacked Andrade. Rey Fenix and Axiom went after Rowan, but Rowan beat them up. Rowan hit a cross body block on both guys from the Motor City Machine Guns. Rowan tried to clear the ring again. The Street Profits went into the ring with an enziguri kick by Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins hit a Pounce to knock Rowan out of the ring. Dawkins hit a dive over the top onto a bunch of guys. Montez Ford hit an amazing somersault dive over the turnbuckles onto a bunch of guys. There were security guys and WWE officials at ringside. The #DIY guys were at ringside too.
SmackDown GM Nick Aldis made a match for SummerSlam. Aldis said that at SummerSlam, those Tag Team Titles will go high above the ring and it will be Tables, Ladders and Chairs for the WWE Tag Team Championships! TLC at SummerSlam!
The tag teams kept fighting around ringside. The fans were chanting, “This is awesome” for the chaos. Tommaso Ciampa jumped off the top and took out a bunch of guys on the floor. The Wyatt Sicks was shown in the aisle. That was the end of the show.
Analysis: TLC at SummerSlam – I love that. The tag team ladder match from the Smackdown after WrestleMania might be the WWE Match of the Year so far, so doing a TLC Match at SummerSlam means these guys are going to have one of the best matches of the night.
Thank you, @RealNickAldis!

Final Thoughts on WWE SmackDown
The show was okay, but it wasn’t great or anything like that. It flew by in two hours. A weaker SmackDown in terms of match quality because I think the Hulk Hogan tribute ate up a lot of time, and they didn’t give any of the four matches more than ten minutes. I’m not sure what match would have been longer, but probably the main event. The tributes to Hogan didn’t eat up too much time, and I thought they did a fair job of paying him respect for his contributions to pro wrestling. They even had Cody Rhodes mention people having complicated feelings about Hogan as well.
They did a nice job of advancing most of the stories for SummerSlam. Jelly Roll is fitting in well as a babyface against Logan Paul. That promo he did was solid, and then the interaction with Paul, Randy Orton, and Drew McIntyre was good. It was cool seeing Jelly hit a Bossman Slam/Black Hole Slam, too. The fans loved it.
The 6-team tag team TLC Match at SummerSlam is a great idea and could be the best match of the weekend since we have seen some of those teams have an incredible ladder match earlier this year. I’m happy that the tag team division will be represented at a major PLE, as they are often overlooked on PLE shows.
The next WWE PLE is SummerSlam from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on August 2 & 3. Here’s the lineup so far.
Saturday, August 2nd Matches
- World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk
- Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed
- WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships – Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss
- Randy Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul
- WWE Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill
- Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross
Sunday, August 3rd Matches
- WWE Championship Street Fight: John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
- Women’s World Championship: Naomi (c) vs. Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley
- Intercontinental Championship: Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. AJ Styles
- United States Championship Steel Cage Match: Solo Sikoa (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
- Women’s Intercontinental Championship (No Countouts, No Disqualifications): Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lyra Valkyria
- WWE Tag Team Championships TLC Match: Wyatt Sicks vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Street Profits vs. #DIY vs. Andrade & Rey Fenix vs. Fraxiom
You can watch SummerSlam on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, streaming live at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix everywhere else.
