The John Report: WWE Raw Deal 04/14/25 Review
It’s WWE Raw featuring Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins in the house, plus AJ Styles faces Karrion Kross, Liv Morgan against Bayley, and more.
This is the final WWE Monday Night Raw before WrestleMania on April 19 & April 20. I’ll have a very long WrestleMania up on TJRWrestling later this week.
This is the Raw Deal for episode #1664 of Monday Night Raw. It’s taking place at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. Follow me on Twitter/X @johnreport. Let’s get to it.
There was some backstage walking shown of Jey Uso, Penta, Finn Balor with The Judgment Day, CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman.
It was Michael Cole and Pat McAfee on commentary. Alicia Taylor was the ring announcer.
A video aired from last week’s Raw when Jey Uso said he’s going to get Gunther at WrestleMania for his whole family and he’s going to take the World Heavyweight Championship.
Interview With Gunther
The World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER made his way into the ring for an in-ring interview with Michael Cole. Gunther was in street clothes. Cole mentioned Gunther left Jimmy Uso bloody last week and Jey Uso confronted Gunther last week. Gunther said that Jey told Gunther that he wasn’t afraid of him anymore. Gunther said that Jey is full of crap. The fans were shouting “Yeet” so Gunther said screw Jey Uso, screw what Jey stands for and screw everybody who stands with him. Gunther said he was the greatest gift this company has ever received. Gunther correctly stated that for 80% of his time in this company, he has been a champion. Gunther claimed he’s the greatest World Heavyweight Champion of all time. Gunther said he refused to let somebody like Jey Uso ruin it for him. Gunther told Jey it won’t matter if he has more confidence because the bell still has to ring. Gunther said that Jey can’t lace his boots and Gunther will put him down for a fourth consecutive time. Gunther said that in 37 years of his life, he has never lost control. Gunther spoke into the camera saying when he took a bath in Jimmy’s blood, he was in control and he loved it. Gunther said if he wasn’t in control, he would have drowned them both in Jimmy’s blood. Gunther said he’s looking forward to calling his mother to tell her about how much he enjoyed beating the hell out of Jey Uso and he will remain the World Heavyweight Champion. Gunther left.
Analysis: There wasn’t much of an interview there. Gunther was fired up and did a good job of making his points as an evil heel champion who seems like perhaps he is worried about Jey Uso beating him. I think Jey should win and probably will win, but I don’t know for sure.
Liv Morgan made her entrance joined by Raquel Rodriguez. They are the Women’s Tag Team Champions. Bayley’s entrance with Lyra Valkyria was shown during the break for some fans.
A video aired featuring Bianca Belair talking about how everything with Jade & Naomi messed her up, so it’s a different side of her facing Iyo Sky & Rhea Ripley. Belair said that she stands up for herself just like she hopes anybody else would do. Belair said she’ll use everything she has to be the best Bianca she has ever been. Belair said she won Elimination Chamber and never lost at WrestleMania, so she’ll be the best Bianca you’ve ever seen. Belair said there’s nothing that Iyo or Rhea can do to stop her because you cannot spell WrestleMania without EST…which is true.
Analysis: I think Bianca Belair might be my pick to win that match. I haven’t decided yet.
Bayley (w/Lyra Valkyria) vs. Liv Morgan (w/Raquel Rodriguez)
It’s Liv & Raquel defending the Women’s Tag Team Titles against Bayley & Lyra at WrestleMania. That match is on Sunday.
Liv worked over Bayley with some kicks against the turnbuckle. Bayley came back with slaps along with punches. Bayley hit a Thesz Press along with punches. Bayley hit a sliding clothesline on Liv for two. Bayley went for a leaping attack, Liv avoided it and Liv hit a dropkick. Liv splashed Bayley against the turnbuckle, but Bayley came back with a clothesline. Bayley hit a suplex for two. Bayley hit a deep arm drag followed by a belly-to-back suplex. Bayley charged at Liv on the floor, but Liv stopped that with a forearm. Liv hit two vertical suplexes on the floor, Bayley stopped a third and Bayley sent Liv into the steel steps. Liv stomped on Bayley’s hand and Liv suplexed Bayley off the steel steps onto the floor. That was creative. They went to a break for some fans, and I’ll take a break too. It was Liv in control for a few minutes.
There were forearms from Bayley while Liv kicked Bayley in the ribs. Bayley hit a knee to the nose. Bayley charged, Liv moved and Bayley went crashing face first into the turnbuckle. Liv hit an enziguri kick for two. Liv jumped off the middle turnbuckle, Bayley caught her and Liv countered into a pin for two. Liv got a rollup for two. Bayley hit a running knee to the face. Bayley hit a sunset flip Buckle Bomb for a two count. Liv was on the apron, Bayley went after her and Liv hit a Codebreaker. Liv hit a dropkick off the apron onto Bayley on the floor. Back in the ring, Liv got a two count. Bayley tried a neckbreaker off the ropes, but Liv held on and Liv hit a knee to the head. Liv jumped off the turnbuckle and Bayley caught her with a Stunner-type move, or maybe like a jawbreaker. Bayley hit Bayley to Belly. Raquel put Liv’s foot on the bottom rope or tried to do it and the referee stopped the count. Lyra went after Raquel, so Raquel kicked Lyra to knock her down. Bayley hit Raquel with a neckbreaker. Liv hit a Backstabber. Liv went for Oblivion, but Lyra helped Bayley by holding onto her while the referee was getting Raquel out of the ring. Bayley did a jackknife pin on Liv for the pinfall win after about 11 minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Bayley
Analysis: ***1/4 A good match between two former Women’s Champions to further the story going into their WrestleMania match. It makes sense to have Bayley get the win to tell the story that a challenger beat a champion going into WrestleMania. The finish was clever because Lyra helped Bayley while the referee was dealing with Raquel and it ended up working perfectly. I liked how it was booked.
Pat McAfee spoke about his ESPN/YouTube Pat McAfee show on Friday. He’ll have Roman Reigns and Triple H as guests on the show, along with other special guests.
A video package aired about the CM Punk-Roman Reigns-Seth Rollins feud leading up to their WrestleMania 41 match.
Rey Mysterio made his entrance joined by the LWO boys. Julius Creed was the opponent joined by the American Made group. This entrance took place during a break for some fans.
Rhea Ripley was featured in a video saying she can see right through Bianca Belair. Ripley said she can see her true intentions because Belair thrives on playing with Ripley’s emotions. Ripley said Belair was trying to make Ripley seem like the bad guy. Ripley said she’ll stop at nothing to get the title back. Ripley said she advised Iyo Sky to cherish every moment she had with the Women’s World Championship and she can’t wait to make Bianca feel what it’s like when Ripley is the bad guy. Ripley said at WrestleMania 41, she’ll get back what belongs to her.
Analysis: Good job by Ripley as always. I think Ripley will have the most crowd support out of the three babyfaces in that match.
Rey Mysterio (w/Dragon Lee, Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro) vs. Julius Creed (w/Brutus Creed, Chad Gable & Ivy Nile)
It was mentioned by Cole that this year’s WrestleMania will be the 13th WrestleMania for Rey. Julius ran over Rey with a shoulder tackle. Rey ran the ropes leading to a hurricanrana, but Julius was back up with a clothesline for two. Rey dropkicked Julius in the knee to send him to the ropes. Julius sent Rey to the apron. There was chaos among everybody at ringside getting involved, including Gable tripping up Rey on the apron. Referee Chad Patton ejected everybody from ringside. They went to break for some fans as Julius remained in control with a backbreaker.
Julius had Rey on his shoulders, so Rey countered with a hurricanrana to send Julius out of the ring. Rey dropkicked Julius on the floor. Rey went for a baseball slide under the bottom rope, but Julius caught him and Julius held up Rey in a suplex position. Julius walked Rey up the steps and Julius kicked Rey. Julius charged, Rey moved and Julius hit the ring post with his shoulder. Rey went up top and hit a hurricanrana off the top. Rey worked over Julius with punches. Julius jumped to the top, Rey jumped onto him, Julius caught him and Rey countered it into a DDT for two. The fans chanted “this is awesome” for them. Julius hit a knee to send Rey into the ropes. Rey managed to send Julius out of the ring. El Grande Americano showed up at ringside, Rey went after him on the apron, so Julius got a rollup for two. Rey shoved Julius into Grande and Rey dropkicked Julius into the ropes. Rey hit Julius with a 619 kick and a Drop the Dime splash for the pinfall win after about 10 minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Rey Mysterio
Analysis: ***1/4 That was a fun match with Julius catching Rey a bunch of times in the match, but Rey kept finding ways to hit impressive counter moves. Julius wasn’t going to win and we knew that obviously. The fans still love Rey and they should.
El Grande American went into the ring and hit Rey with a running headbutt or a forearm smash. Dragon Lee went into the ring. The other LWO guys showed up and Grande headbutted Del Toro. Grande hit a running headbutt on Lee as well. Grande went up top and hit a top rope headbutt on Rey. A replay was shown of Grande putting a piece of metal under his mask.
Analysis: A cheap attack by El Grande Americano to get some heat going into his WrestleMania match with Rey. Grande used the dreaded metal to put over that idea again so we’ll see if he does again at WrestleMania too.
The War Raiders did a promo about how they have dominated for more than a decade and they’ve won gold all around the world. Ivar said they had them beat. Erik said that The New Day knows they can’t beat the Raiders. Ivar said that last week, New Day took this to a whole new level. Erik said that they tried to end the War Raiders career. Ivar said that this won’t be a match or a fight and Erik said: “This is war.”
The New Day was interviewed by Jackie Redmond, who mentioned what The War Raiders said. Xavier Woods said they’ve been in a war. Kofi Kingston said they’ve been in a war the entire time. Kofi said that they’ll take back the World Tag Team Titles and they’re the greatest team on planet Earth. Woods said that Erik will wish that they had taken his head off. Woods said that everybody will drop to their knees and say: “Thank God for The New Day.’ That was it.
Analysis: I think I’m picking The New Day in that match.
AJ Styles made his entrance for singles action. The entrance of Karrion Kross with Scarlett was next. It was the old Kross entrance from his NXT days and when he started on the main roster. That was during the break for some fans.
There was a video of the WrestleMania 28 Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Triple H with Shawn Michaels as the referee. There were comments from several people talking about the match. I was there in Miami that night and it was an amazing match.
AJ Styles vs. Karrion Kross (w/Scarlett)
Kross hit a boot to the face to stop a charging Styles. Kross choked Styles across the middle ropes, then he argued with the referee and Scarlett choked Styles across the middle rope. Kross hit an overhead suplex across the ring. Kross sent Styles sternum first into the turnbuckle. Styles hit a dropkick followed by a baseball slide kick to send Kross into the barricade. Kross tripped up Styles. Kross sent Styles into the barricade at ringside. A fan was dressed as a Prime bottle for some reason. Kross sent Styles over the barricade at ringside. Kross remained in control, but Styles came back with kicks while on the floor. They were back in the ring where Kross hit a suplex. Kross applied a chinlock.
Kross lifted up Styles onto his shoulders and Kross hit a slam off the shoulders that Cole said was the Final Prayer for a two count. Styles kicked Kross in the right leg a few times and Kross was down selling as if he was really hurt. It was all a ruse because Kross nailed Styles with a forearm to the face. Styles came back with a forearm, back fist and a sliding forearm. Styles splashed Kross against the turnbuckle, but Kross came back with a DDT. Kross went for a forearm, Styles avoided it and Styles slammed Kross onto the knee for a neckbreaker. Styles knocked down Kross with a forearm. Styles went up top and hit a Phenomenal Forearm for the pinfall win after 8 minutes.
Winner by pinfall: AJ Styles
Analysis: *** It was a competitive match to put over Styles going into his WrestleMania match. Kross isn’t in a WrestleMania match, so it obviously made sense for Styles to win. I thought Kross did a nice job and I want to see him in the ring more moving forward. Styles was great as usual.
Logan Paul showed up for a promo as the fans booed him loudly. Paul said he was there to congratulate Styles while the fans booed a lot. Paul congratulations Styles for the win. Paul trashed Sacramento for not being cool enough to live in Los Angeles and not smart enough to live in San Francisco. Paul said that their match is gonna “cook” which means it will be good. Paul told Styles here is what he is up against. A video aired about Paul’s career and matches.
AJ Styles told Logan Paul to bring his ass to the ring right now. Karrion Kross tried to attack, so Styles punched him. Paul went into the ring and Styles punched him. Styles hit a reverse DDT on Kross. When Styles turned around, Paul nailed Styles with the dreaded punch to the face. Paul flipped up Styles leading to his Paulverizer flipping DDT. Paul celebrated his attack.
Analysis: It was another cheap attack by a heel after a face won a match similar to the Americano-Mysterio attack earlier.
Paul Heyman was still waiting for Roman Reigns in the parking lot area.
Chad Gable appeared with American Made for a promo. This was during a break. Gable complained about how his WrestleMania opportunity was taken from him. Gable claimed he was happy for El Grande Americano replacing him at WrestleMania. Gable bragged about Grande taking out the LWO. Gable mentioned that it is Rey Mysterio’s 13th WrestleMania match and it will be an unlucky number as Grande cements himself as the greatest luchador of all time.
Let’s Hear from Jey Uso
Jey Uso made his entrance from the crowd as usual and the fans were loud for him with the Yeeting hand gestures. Jey looked like he was going to talk because he had a microphone in his hands, so Jey did some dancing on the commentary table while the fans were Yeeting for him.
Jey did a promo on the commentary table. Jey said that he said what he wanted to say to Gunther last week, but he’s here to talk to the fans. Jey said that his mom was in the crowd somewhere. Jey said he was crashing out, but he’s locked in for him, his family and the fans. Jey said Gunther is mad and he thinks Gunther is afraid. Jey told Gunther he’s going to whoop his ass in front of 60,000 for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Jey said he’ll see him on Saturday. Jey called for his music to play, so Jey did the Yeeting with the fans again.
Analysis: It was a simple promo from Jey to show that he was ready for Gunther at WrestleMania. I thought that there might be an attack by Gunther, but there was none of that here.
The Wing Stop highlight of the night was shown. It was Penta beating Dominik Mysterio last week on Raw. After the match, there was a fight that included Bron Breakker hitting an amazing Spear on Carlito. Bron hit Spears on Carlito and Penta, but Finn Balor attacked Bron from behind. Bron got back up to hold his title.
The Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker was interviewed by Cathy Kelley. Bron said it was the biggest title defense of his career, but he was attacked by Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio & Carlito. The J-Day trio attacked Bron by throwing him into some equipment cases. Bron was grabbing his right arm on the floor while WWE Officials showed up to stop the attack.
Analysis: It was yet another babyface on this show getting attacked like Rey and AJ earlier in the night. Bron grabbing his shoulder could lead to a storyline injury with Bron having a sore shoulder, so it could affect his Spear usage.
Penta made his entrance for singles action. They went to a break for some fans as Penta continued his entrance. The start of Finn Balor’s entrance was shown.
A commercial aired for the Cody Rhodes-John Cena match at WrestleMania 41. Cena: “Sit on your ass and watch me be great.” Simple enough.
There will be a WrestleMania Kickoff Show on Friday that will air on Peacock, YouTube and social media channels.
Finn Balor vs. Penta
Penta kicked Balor off the apron and Penta hit a somersault dive over the top onto Balor. They were back in the ring where Penta hit a cross body block off the top. Penta hit a running kick to the head. Penta did a handstand leading to a flipping kick to the chest. Penta kicked Balor in the back of the left leg three times in a row. Penta chopped Balor in the chest. Balor got some offense after rolling through a sunset flip attack and Balor hit a low dropkick for two. Balor stomped on Penta a few times. Balor turned it around on Penta leading to a reverse DDT on the apron, so Penta bumped to he floor. Balor was in control with punches as the match continued during a break for some fans. Balor hit a running elbow smash for two. Balor grounded Penta with an armbar. Balor hit another reverse DDT with an elbow drop for two.
Balor had Penta set up on the top turnbuckle and Balor hit a superplex for two. Penta hit a running hurricanrana followed by two clotheslines and a superkick. Penta jumped over Balor leading to the double knee Backstabber for two. Penta set up Balor on the top rope, Balor fought back, Penta was on the apron and Penta hit a hurricanrana off the top. Penta hit a Slingblade into a bulldog followed by Balor hitting his own Slingblade. Penta hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Penta pulled on Balor’s right arm with The Sacrifice. Penta went for the Penta Driver, but Balor countered and sat on top for two. Penta hit a superkick to the jaw. Carlito and Dominik Mysterio showed up at ringside, so Balor got a rollup for two. Balor hit a Slingblade again. Balor hit a running dropkick into the turnbuckle. Bron Breakker’s music hit, so Bron ran down to the ring and Carlito ran away this time. Bron nailed Balor with a clothesline so there’s a DQ. It went 12 minutes.
Winner by disqualification: Finn Balor
Analysis: ***1/2 That was my favorite match of the night, even with the DQ ending. They worked so well together with a lot of cool moves, sweet counters and even some similar moves like the Slingblade. I thought Penta might get the W, but I don’t mind the DQ because then neither guy goes into WM with momentum.
After the match, Dominik and Carlito attacked Bron, but Bron fought back and Bron hit a double Spear on Dominik and Carlito at the same time. That was awesome. Bron charged at Penta, who stopped it with a kick. Penta did a hurricanrana to send Bron out of the ring. Penta jumped off the top with a cross body block onto Bron, Dominik and Carlito on the floor. Penta stood tall in the ring while Balor was in the aisle. Bron was holding his left knee as the referee talked to him so hopefully Bron is okay.
Analysis: I liked that post-match interaction. That IC Title 4-way can go a lot of ways. I might pick Dominik Mysterio to win, but I think all four options are good. It’s been built up well.
Iyo Sky was featured in a video talking in Japanese while the translation was shown on screen. Sky reminded Bianca Belair & Rhea Ripley that they keep arguing about Sky’s Women’s World Title. Sky reminded them that they had to go through her to get the title and Sky isn’t afraid to defend it. Sky said she’s beaten them both before and she’ll do it again. Sky spoke in English saying at WrestleMania, they’ll never forget the name of Iyo Sky, the Women’s World Champion.
Analysis: Iyo is awesome, and I’m sure it will be a great match. As I mentioned earlier, I’m leaning toward a Bianca Belair win in that match.

* AJ Styles vs. Logan Paul
* WWE Women’s World Championship: IYO SKY (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley
* Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. John Cena
I assume there’s a Randy Orton match on Sunday, but it’s not official yet. I think it will be Randy against Solo Sikoa.
Paul Heyman was sitting in the parking lot when CM Punk walked over to him and put his arm around Heyman’s shoulder. Roman Reigns finally arrived in a truck, he saw Punk talking to Heyman and Reigns walked away from Heyman.
Roman Reigns made his entrance to a big ovation with “Wise Man” Paul Heyman by his side. They went to break for some fans as Reigns continued his slow walking entrance.
Let’s Hear from Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins…and Not CM Punk
Roman Reigns was in the ring with Paul Heyman, who tried to hand Reigns a microphone, but Reigns refused it. Reigns got his own microphone. Reigns told Sacramento to acknowledge him, so they did and chanted “OTC” for him. Reigns said that the whole world knows you love your Tribal Chief. Reigns said that you would never betray your Tribal Chief, but some people would betray him and Reigns asked if they had a guess who that might be? Reigns asked Heyman how could you betray him? The fans chanted “you f**ked up” so Reigns told them to say it louder, and the swear word was getting muted.
Heyman said it was not a betrayal and Heyman clarified that he paid back a favor that he was owed. Reigns said that the way favors work is that you usually pay them back yourself. Reigns said that the only person getting screwed in this favor Is Reigns. Reigns said that if you know anything about the Tribal Chief, they won’t ask for a favor because Reigns said that they take what they want. Reigns claimed he never asked for anybody to join them at WarGames, so how is Reigns supposed to cover the tab for Heyman’s dumbass favor?
Seth Rollins made his freakin’ entrance with the fans singing his song as usual. Rollins joined Reigns in the ring, saying that after over a decade, Reigns is finally putting the pieces together all by himself and he’s just missing one little piece because Rollins still has to end Reigns at WrestleMania. Rollins claimed that it’s the biggest and most important triple threat match in the history of this business because the winner will define the future of this industry. Rollins said it can’t be Reigns. Rollins trashed Reigns for showing up when it’s convenient because this business would die. Rollins said that this can’t be about CM Punk because he left and came back while leeching off others’ success. Rollins said that then the business dies if Punk wins. Rollins said he always does what is best for business and claimed that the business not only lives, but it thrives. Rollins said that it has to be him. Rollins said that favors don’t happen by chance, they are a choice and Rollins claimed that he chose not to put Heyman in the hospital last week. Rollins said that Heyman is a scumbag, so Rollins doesn’t expect a favor from him. Rollins said that Heyman was in CM Punk’s corner by choice. Rollins said that Reigns needs to think about why Heyman is choosing Punk over Reigns.
Analysis: I don’t know if I buy the statement by Rollins about this being the biggest triple threat match ever. If you win the match, then you control the future of wrestling? I don’t know about that. It’s kind of a weak reason.
Reigns said that Rollins was right. Reigns said Heyman made his choice and he’s made his, so Reigns punched Rollins. Reigns sent Rollins shoulder first into the ring post. Heyman said he acknowledged the Tribal Chief, so Reigns pie-faced Heyman and shoved Heyman on his ass.
CM Punk ran down to the ring and clotheslined Reigns out of the ring. Punk checked on Heyman to see if Heyman was okay. Reigns was back in the ring, Punk turned around and Reigns hit Punk with a Spear. Rollins was back in the ring with a steel chair to Roman’s back, just like The Shield heel turn from 10 years ago. Rollins hit Punk with The Stomp. Rollins hit Reigns with The Stomp as well.
Seth Rollins stood tall in the ring with the steel chair while the fans sang his song. That was the end of Raw.
Analysis: I thought it was a very good show ending angle. As I said above, I don’t know about this being the most important triple threat match ever or anything like that because we have seen many triple threat matches with titles on the line, while this match has nothing on the line. I get why Rollins said it because it’s a way to hype the match. I also think it will be a great match between Reigns, Rollins, and Punk, so I am looking forward to it. Nice touch by Rollins hitting Reigns with the chair to the back. Well done. Reigns shoving Heyman down to the mat shows that Reigns doesn’t want to be with him anymore, and it makes Reigns a bit heelish, even though the fans love him. My lean is for Punk to win and to celebrate with Heyman to end the show, but it’s not an easy match to predict.
This week’s Raw had a runtime of 2 hours, 25 minutes.

Final Thoughts on WWE Raw
I think it was a good show most of the way. They had a lot of talking since it was the final Raw before WrestleMania, so that’s understandable. I thought Gunther did a great job with his promo, while Jey Uso’s response was short. The Roman Reigns promo was excellent, while Seth Rollins had an interesting reply to try to build the match up more. CM Punk didn’t say a word, but things got physical and Rollins stood tall to end it. Nice throwback by Rollins hitting Reigns with a chair to the back like The Shield breakup from a decade ago.
The match results made sense with Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles getting wins over guys who aren’t in a WrestleMania match. They also got attacked by their WrestleMania opponents after their matches, so that felt repetitive. The Penta/Finn Balor match was a lot of fun, even with a DQ finish. Good job by Bayley and Liv Morgan in the first match too.
There are probably some fans who wanted some major happenings on the last Raw before WrestleMania. I don’t think there were any of those, but it was still an entertaining show to me. Bring on WrestleMania Saturday, Sunday, and everything else. A lot of writing for me. I’m ready.
